The Bay Area's Breaking News Station

First KGO (ABC7) started a new campaign with the slogan, The Bay Area's Breaking News Station.

Now KRON4 is running promos stating they are "The Bay Area's Breaking News Station"!

How can they prove it?

Breaking news by losing that NBC affiliation in 2002 and becoming a shell of it's own self - lol!

I know so many people were rather concerned about this latest scandal in the News Slogan stealing subject. Here is the absolute latest.....
KGO has tweaked their slogan to: The Bay Area Breaking News Leader

All this sloganeering is silly. It reminds me of times in the past when all of the staions brag about being "first" in the ratings - with different interpretations of what "first" means.

"Rated number one at 6:00" (meaning we're number 2 at best at 5:00 and 11:00).

"More Bay Area viewers watch ____ News than any other station" (meaning we run more hours of news than any other station)

Also reminds me that in the 80s, KRON and KPIX fought over who had the rights to "Live at 5:00" for their 5 PM broadcast. KRON won that one.

I thought KPIX didn't even have a 5PM newscast until 1989. The "Live at 5" brand was used by KRON looong before then.

Manny - my memory is far from perfect, but IIRC, KPIX did have a 5:00 newscast at some time in the 70s. I searched the internet for a few minutes and could find no proof either way. The memory is that KPIX was using "Live at 5:00" at the same time as KRON, but more as a slogan than a title for the broadcast. KRON threatened some kind of legal action, and claimed ownership of the copyright, or something similar. IIRC, one claim is that KNBC was using it in LA, and had given KRON - a NBC affilaite, permission to use it.

I don't think I imagined all this, but I wouldn't bet my life on it...

Would you bet your left arm? LOL

WNBC had a Live At 5, also. They may still have it.
Maybe a behemoth Network, like NBC threatening
Poor little Group W, that may be why KPIX gave up
their Live at 5

I'm getting awfully jaded about all the hundreds of news stories that are breathlessly announced as "Breaking news!" Most of the time the "breaking news" turns out to be a very trivial item such as a broken fire hydrant or a dumpster fire or a stolen car or a graffiti-covered wall. Trivial as these stories are, getting the "scoop" is what the stations take pride in: "We were the first local station to show video of that church wall with graffiti on it!" Sheesh!

Breaking news - some cat got stuck in a tree in Daly City - call the US government! And "we were FIRST on the scene" yuck! News is supposed to be NEWS, not a fluff show.

LB Keller Does anybody remember Van Amburg "severed male Part on the Caltrain Tracks(Mike Wallace confronting VanAmburg) " back in 1973? I know Mike Wallace went after VanAmburg for this on 60 minutes.
