WDRC! To much change!!

I have been a great fan of wdrc for many years and dont like where its heading. Its starting to sound a lot like waqy (102.1) classic rock).Wish we could turn back the clock but don't think that's going to happen. If this trend continues which is likely ill be looking for another oldies station or stock up on mp3 oldies.

I've already abandoned them for daily listening. If I ever get an outdoor antenna I may try their HD2 (assuming it's still there) but I've gone to my own music or listen to one of the Manhattan all-news stations.

I have to agree as well, although its still my main station.

I also noticed that they are cutting off the ends of a lot of songs lately, not sure whats up with that. Has anyone else noticed that?

The HD-2 is still there, with more mid- and late '60s titles being added to the library, including songs like the Mamas and the Papas' "Twelve Thirty," Edwin Starr's "Agent Double-O Soul" and the Amboy Dukes' "Journey to the Center of the Mind," which weren't even part of the regular playlist during DRC-FM's oldies days. Not a bad listen at all, despite unnecessary repetition of many '50s/early '60s songs. I seem to run into "Topsy, Part 2," "Shake, Rattle and Roll" or "Rip It Up" an awful lot.

Last six songs played:

Positively 4th Street -- Bob Dylan
Come On Let's Go -- Richie Valens (another "repeat offender")
Uptown -- Crystals
I Can't Stay Mad at You -- Skeeter Davis
Not Fade Away -- Buddy Holly
A Whiter Shade of Pale -- Procol Harum

For what it's worth, i'm starting to hear DRC-FM (the main signal) in places that used to have WRCH playing in the background, and the people in charge of the radio in those places are mostly in their early/mid 40s, so the new music mix looks like it's finding its desired demographic sweet spot. So few people have HD radios that it's probably unfair to expect any DRC-HD2 workplace penetration.

Disagree with the original poster that DRC-FM is sounding like WAQY. If anything, it's sounding more like WKSS sounded in the '80s and early '90s -- heavy on the rhythmic pop (Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc.), light on rock. With the addition of '70s titles, of course, but even those tend more to be disco/dance/rhythmic rather than classic rock.

It's definitely got a little of that vintage Kiss feel, I agree. The PD is right in the demo sweet spot herself. She knows exactly what she's doing, and it's working. I think it's brilliant and innovative in a sea of stale stations. DRC-FM is sticking their neck out and trying something new. They should be congratulated.

For what it's worth, CBS-FM was playing songs that were 15 years old as an oldies station in the 70s. 1998 was 15 years ago. 1993 was 20 years ago.

1960 was 53 years ago. That would have been like CBS-FM playing music from the roaring 20s in the 70s.

I still think DRC is sounding abit like WAQY with disco, newer music and even some Rap (YUK) mixed in. its not just the music that I liked on wdrc its the DJ's! That seem well informed on what they play and giving some interesting background on the artists and songs played. If it wasn't for the DJ's I wouldn't be listening much to drc fm anymore. I do give praise to wdrc and the HD2 which I do listen to at times but wish they would throw in a DJ to talk about the music being played.

What rap? Other than the intro to Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You" (great song, by the way, even with the rap), I don't think they're playing any hip-hop at all.

To be clear, are you talking about WAQY in their "Wacky 102" days? There hasn't been any disco or "new music" on WAQY since 1981 when they went AOR, and certainly not since they went straight ahead classic rock in '92.

I think that drc is starting to play more and more classic rock like todays waqy and getting away from its old format all together.seems lately im hereing more and more classic rock songs that waqy plays now.

I miss the days where I could actually listen to radio now its just an ipod and soptify or online radio listen to a better townsquare station than the ones they own in CT out from Montana. Local jocks, Local events, Better music the way radio used to be in CT. 94.3 the shark is Ok I occasionally listen but until I can get lazer 99.3 from MA the radio is off. I struggle to keep my radio show alive on WXCI for the reason of no one cares to listen anymore. CCC we miss you come back pleeeeze! I beg you
