1540 AM Albany - Down

AM 1540 Albany (I can't keep track of their call letters any more) is currently running my favorite "This is Westwood One Radio Networks AMC 8 Transponder 23. To authorize your receiver call Westwood One Denver Operations at 720-xxx-xxxx from 8AM-10PM Eastern Time." *BEEP*

Yes, that Westwood One announcement and 1 kHz test tone really gets out tonight. It's clear as a bell here in the Boston area. WOW! Imagine wasting a solid 50,000 watt signal with no legal ID for this. Hard to believe that this used to be the venerable WPTR/1540. Oh, well. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!! "This is Westwood One Radio Networks AMC 8 Transponder 23. To authorize your receiver call Westwood One Denver Operations at 720-xxx-xxxx from 8AM-10PM Eastern Time." *BEEP*.

Well, sounds to me like they lost their receiver authorization. Maybe they added a new syndicated program and forgot to get the channel turned on.

WHYN Springfield, apparently running on autopilot one Sunday afternoon a few years ago when it was still on the Red Sox network, put about 20 minutes of looped rain-out announcements for a spring training on air, along with instructions on whom to call, before actual programming resumed at the top of the hour. Clear Channel, so it happens to the "best" of them.

Under a time brokerage agreement...

Well, once again it's another "Sunday Night with the Westwood One Network Placeholder Announcer" on the 50,000 watts of WDCD, formerly "The Friend Of The Northeast, WPTR/1540". Love those 1 kHz tones. They really bounce on that ionosphere!

Now THAT's ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

While I forgot to see if 1540 was still having issues with Westwood One Sunday Night, I noticed last night that they're no longer signing of at 10PM. They also apparently don't have any advertisers. During the 11PM hour last night I caught their ID and I heard 3 PSAs in a row, followed by the Andrea Tantaros Show. I don't like Political Talk radio. Plus there is nothing more stimulating than listen to a talk show on a 14 hour delay! The Andrea Tantaros show is done live on Talk Radio Network 9AM-Noon.

They are now "the all new WDCD." They are carrying Talk Radio Network's America's Morning News from 6 to 9 a.m. followed by Laura Ingraham. Neil Boortz will be in afternoon drive. I haven't listen at any other time. I was listening from about 10:53 to 11:06 this morning and it was a continuous run of commercials, PSAs and promos. When I called to tell them they would be looking for another new format soon as it's impossible to have an even marginally successful talk radio format without local and national news, I was told the station is leased but apparently not exclusively by TRN as Ingraham and Boortz aren't carried by them. The reception said they have America's Morning News from 6 to 9. I'm proud that I didn't laugh at that statement. Totally clueless to what I was saying. Would have been better for the frequency to remain dark than to have this very unprofessional sounding station on the air.

Boortz retired at the end of the year. Herman Cain took the show over.

I don't know what to think about TRN.
