If you could choose your own format for a station here...

Pending that ratings and profitability didn't have to be considered, which format would you want to see in Boston? While I know that this will not be the most popular choice, I would like to hear a CCM station here.

Despite what many say -- I think a well programmed not preachy CCM could work in Boston -- Hey look at Country! ... but many on this forum would disagree.

Commercial CCM works well for EMF with K-Love and Air1....but they can spread expenses over their crapload o'stations. A standalone might struggle here in New England...but it's a better chance than Urban AC :)

It's hard to think of any major markets other than Boston without a CCM presence... I don't think it'll show up on a Pru FM, but its arrival on a rimshot station can't be too far off. But I do think it'll be K-Love -- assuming none of the existing operators in this market would go that route, the startup costs would be enormous.

Clear Channel had a few CCM stations a few years ago, KFMK in Austin comes to mind immediately... but I believe they've all been sold off. Whereas K-Love is a ministry first, Clear Channel and Salem's Fishes are a business first, so it's a bit of a different listening experience.

We'll be dividing by zero and getting an understandable answer before Urban AC gets a foothold in Boston....

I'd say try (FM Talk) again, but this time, put variety talk such as Good Day, Trending Today, Clark Howard, Redding News Review, Leslie Marshall, and Jim Bohannon. I'd say put something like this. But make it variety, like this. I bet you what, a lot of people will like it.

I think Laurojrm may be back...

Although Mr. JAROME_CALVIN is not advocating for Urban AC, this post is all syndication, all the time.

All New (Hot) Country would be awesome.
Although Some cities (Los Angeles, and San Fransisco has (Asian) formats. It'd be cool to have a station playing (Nice, New, Soft, Romantic) Asian (Chinese, Laos, Korean, Cambodian, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai) music. That'd be cool. 1300am wjda used to do that Sunday nights. Why not?

Our WAZN has run Vietnamese and Mandarin (Chinese) programming in the past. For a while, WLYN ran Cantonese (Chinese).
We are owned by a Chinese family-owned, private company, based in NY. The Asian audience is very small
in this area. Maybe just a few hours per week?

Now it's my turn. A REAL LIVE Alternative rock station, independently run, with live DJ's and specialty shows all week long with a wide playlist, with no active rock. Like FNX was in most years, on the FM dial. If they move Radio BDC to FM, or add a signal there. Along those lines.
WBOS, WXRV, and WAAF are NOT alternative

Works for me!

WFNX did break a lot of new and played a lot of their own music not found elsewhere in the Country.

... But the internet can do alternative so much better. The whole point of alternative radio is that it's an "alternative" to the mainstream. Broadcast, by nature, is mainstream. It has to have broad appeal to succeed financially, especially today. The brilliance of the internet is that alternative fans can tailor their music discovery to fit their personal tastes. None of the junk I don't like, plenty that I do!

In 2013, I can't picture a scenario where weekday block programming with live jocks, and not owned by a cluster that can spread costs over multiple stations would be financially successful.

Agreed, although WXRV lately has been sounding a bit more "alty" these days. Don't forget about 88.9 WERS, which has expanded their eclectic rock format. I would think that of any station, WERS would be the one to eventually shift to a diverse alternative format, similar to ones found online. I like RadioBDC, and am (no so) secretly hoping that another major area broadcaster could put RadioBDC on their HD2 with the hopes that they could run a translator off the top of the Globe building, even though the signal wouldn't reach too far. Or, maybe Greater Media will dump the Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, and endless Bob Marley from WBOS and make them a more true alternative station. These are all pipe-dreams, however, and likely not to happen anytime soon.

One other thought--if this whole EDM thing doesn't work out, perhaps Clear Channel dumps Evolution and puts The Alternative Project on 101.7. Not my choice, but it's something.

Dance. Oh wait, Boston already has a dance station :)

Real oldies, like the Oldies 103.3 days. 50s-70s music.

Soft AC, like 103.3 The Cove on WODS-HD-3

Urban AC, like Touch 106.1.

Real oldies 50s-70s, absolutely! "Classic hits" a la` WROR does not cut it, with the likes of The Eagles every hour, Billy Joel, Elton John, Bob Seeger, Bruce. Keep the 80s off; play mostly 60s, with some 50s and some 70s, yes, including tunes from the disco era.

Aging baby boomers are getting screwed from broadcasters, since all there is is classic hits, classic rock, or hip-hop (the latter on FIVE FREAKIN' STATIONS and increasing!), or alt rock. WTF are we supposed to do, lie down and die?

And forget HD-2, HD-3; these signals go nowhere, as they are limited to only about 10% of the power of the main ANALOG FM channel.

A resounding NO! to "urban AC" a la` Touch 106.1!!!!! (See above.)
