TADX Season 2013/14

Heard that there were reports of TalkSport 1089 opening up in Michigan - so TA has begun!

Sure wish that Northern Ireland receiver would come back online for this TA season, but "Oldtimer" said last year he wouldn't be doing it anymore.

Wowzers! Saudi Arabia's General Service on 1521 kHz. This is the best I've ever heard them, even though it's not fully dark yet. Buffalo's KB is still very much an issue, but I'm clearly able to match (it's a spoken word programme) with the stream.

Happy hunting!

Very impressive.

Wasn't able to hear any of the MW signals, but longwave has some very strong signals tonight. France, Europe1, Luxembourg were all audible. Europe 1 is particularly strong.

I think I also heard Iceland on 189, but it could have been some mixing from a local.

I've been trying for some LW, but with not much success :S. Over the years, I have gotten a number of audible LW signals on occasion, from France-Inter on 162 kHz in particular, however my MW catches have generally been more successful.

Radio Farda up again tonight. Spoken word programme, woman's voice heard, often faint and fading, but it's definitely there.

Also on 1215, at times Absolute Radio isn't there, but there seems to be another spoken word programme of some sort coming through. Haven't been able to ID language. There's a couple of Spaniards on 1215, but they're (only) in the 5-10 kW range.

I'd try 693 and 1089. BBC Radio 5 is on 693, and TalkSPORT is on 1089. You may have problems with 1090 however. Also, 1557 is a good bet with France Info, and 1548 is Gold from the UK with classic hits.

Saudi up again tonight. Dropping in and out, with a spoken word programme between male guest and female interviewer. Signal is really sporadic, but easier to ID once the music started. :)

I'll be trying out crainbebo's suggestions. 1089 will indeed be a challenge for me, as is 1557, as NYC's Radio Disney outlet is really strong out here. I've gotten Gold before on 1548, but it's actually not an easy catch, as it's quite nulled towards our direction, if I'm not mistaken.

Tincap.

Just read that solar activity has dropped to a 100 year low.

We may be in for an unexpectedly great TA season.

Coolio, I thought we were a few years into the up swing of solar activity (11 year cycle?). I remember conditions were really good, when I first signed up here, several years ago. Here's hoping for a repeat TA treat :D.

Having said that, it's a little on the quiet side at the moment, though I'll post an update when I hear something interesting.
