Steve Crumbley out at Summit Greenville

Steve was the operations manager, weekday afternoons/Sundays on 107.3 JAMZ and I believe programmer for the cluster. Wow, what a shocker especially on the heels of X flipping formats. Summit seems to be making changes left and right.

That is surprising! WTF. JAMZ is the best thing they have going. I believe he was just programming WJMZ. I think "Supa" Dave does HOT, Chuck and X (well, soon to be former X).

HOT is a hot mess. Chuck has been up and down lately. And while X was steady (particularly for it's piss poor signal), we all know where that went.

From my understanding JAMZ is the only true money maker in the cluster and I would have thought a BIG money maker. Strange goings on over there.

Still kind of sad to think that Cox seemed to be running the show better than Summit. As carolinaradio mentioned in another thread, it goes to show that big companies may not always be evil and smaller ones aren't always a good thing.

So, they've released the programmer of the cash cow. It'll be interesting to see this ship sink if they don't bring in someone strong. No one in-house there can handle it. I don't think it's going to take more than 6 months for Jamz to lose its domination under the Summit direction. Supa Dave hasn't programmed Hot since Summit took over. You can hear the difference for sure. Hot's numbers are dropping dramatically. I wonder how long it'll be before they flip Hot as well.

In the end, this is GREAT news for Entercom and Clear Channel.

Yeah, sounds like it's a disaster over there. Hearing morale is low and things just keep getting worse. I had much higher hopes for Summit. Turns out the complete opposite of what I thought would happen is happening. Sad.

If Jamz weakens, I wonder if Entercom would try an Urban direction on one of their signals (duh, 93.3)....remember they have somebody with Urban (importantly, Jamz) knowledge running the show there now...

The Summit people sound pretty inept to me. Cox programmed conservatively, but they seemed like a well-run operation.

Another rumor on this. Sounds like Hot's current PD, Mary K Smooches (?), will also now be programming JAMZ!!! I have no idea what Summit's thinking is on this since Hot's already floundering under her direction.

So yeah....sounds like the time is ripe for Entercom or Clear Channel to enter the Urban game if they're smart.

**KELLY MAC is BACK at 107.3 JAMZ. That's right! She's back and doing afternoon drive and I'd assume the new PD!**

Yes, Mary K is definitely programming HOT 98.1. She's no stranger to Summit/Cox. She was PD at sister Rhythmic (Urban) 95.7 JAMZ in Birmingham.

107.3 JAMZ will not fall or dip in ratings UNTIL another company launches a pure Urban Contemporary or Urban Mainstream station. 107.3 will continue to win by defualt being the only Urban formatted station in the Upstate and let's not forget that monster signal that booms into the NE suburbs of ATL. They can air no jocks, just music and still be #1.

Kelly Mac may be back but she's not the new PD at JAMZ unless things changed after a day when Mary K. was given the duties on a permanent basis from what I am told.

Agree with ShawtyBlackATL. As long as there's no true alternative, Jamz could sound however they wanted and still do just or almost as well. There's nowhere else for the audience to go unless they live in Spartanburg and get 101.9/105.3 from Charlotte.

I wouldn't be surprised, though, with things in a bit of chaos over at Summit, if someone, particularly Entercom, tries to take them on. This isn't really a huge Urban market, but JAMZ does take most of it and I think it'd be more like a WSSL/WESC battle if one popped up. And at that point I could easily see one of the country stations going to #1. Remember, even with JAMZ, there were once times when a country station would switch on and off with the #1 and #2 spots.

I disagree. If I'm not mistaken, there was a time before Steve Crumbly arrived when Jamz struggled. I think thats why they hired him. I think Jamz could easily slip back into a #2 or 3 position with poor programming.

Once again...107.3 JAMZ and Summit has nothing to worry about unless some other company gives the competition. Correct me if I'm wrong, but WJMZ constantly ranks #1 12+, 18-34 and 25-54 give or take 1 or 2 books? They were even once the #2 Urban station in America 25-54. Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson has NO Hip-Hop station, there's the competition. I remember when Clear Channel launched a new station last year during stunting they were teasing 107.3 as being the only Urban, overated, tired station with Tom Joyner in the morning.
