I wonder if the SS could be XESS between Tijuana and Ensenada? They run, I think, 5 kW omni into the same single tower they share with 1030 XESDD. (I think XESS supposedly runs ESPN Deportes though. I'm hearing music right now on them at 10:45am. Update 10:48 - just heard "Radio Tecate equis E ese ese seis veinte a eme" ID.)

I consider this one a pest. When I've checked 650 at night I heard country music (as much as could break through KFI's IBOC hash), and thought I had WSM. Turned out every time to be KMTI.

KHWG is country from Fallon, NV. Maybe you had Spanish-language KAMA El Paso, TX?

I wonder which mexican station that is? I can Just make out a faint wisp of them under KFMB at night (even though I'm only 7.3 miles southeast of their transmitter) if I hold my radio just right, also at sunset/sunrise when KFMB briefly drops carrier for pattern/power change. (I really wish it was South America, though - that'd be some pretty awesome DX out from under a co-channel ultra-local.)

Maybe later tonight (Saturday). The receiver is a good AM DX receiver - as well as NDB receiver. Have picked up beacons out to Puerto Rico on there. (391 DDP 3300 miles).

How come a station from Mexico runs IBOC? How can that be?

1020 - KTNQ Los Angeles, CA
1030 - XESDD Tijuana BCN super-strong
1040 - a few weak ones
1050 - XED Mexicali BCN; XEG Monterrey NL
1060 - KDUS Tempe AZ on top with 500W; straight jazz station (XEEP?); no sign of the CKMX Comedy format.
1070 - KNX Los Angeles
1080 - can't be certain, but sounds like a Mexican station in strong slop of XEPRS
1090 - XEPRS Tijuana BCN
1100 - KFAX San Francisco, CA; KWWN Las Vegas NV
1110 - KDIS Pasadena CA most dominate; also college football either KBND or KFAB.
1120 - Mexican station, Mexicali? KANN-UT and others under

1180 - Spanish station with Salsa music, and it does NOT match Radio Rebelde 5025! Radio Marti? Also EE under likely KERN
1190 - KEX Portland; maybe KXMX, complete mess.
1200 - WOAI-TX mixed with others
1210 - Country station (KHAT maybe?); KPRZ San Diego, CA
1220 - XEB Mexico City all alone - no KHTS or KWKU to interfere!

The Mexican government approved HD in the border zone soon after it was introduced. More recently, they approved HD as the official digital system for all Mexico.

Martí is one of the most severely directional stations anywhere. It shoots all its power in a fairly narrow lobe pointed at Cuba. Driving, it is pretty much gone by Key Largo, although occasional reception can be had in the SE parts of Miami.

A couple of the remaining AMs in Mexico play salsa (it's not much heard on FM, as it is a very niche music form in Mexico).

770 UNID with Enrique Iglesias but not matching KATL's webstream. Nothing to look for in Mexico either - maybe talk show bumper mx. Under KKOB-NM
1130 KRDU Dinuba CA 115mi and KSDO. No sign of CKWX
1000 KOMO Seattle very strong 853mi, almost no CCI from XEFV. Strong with traffic report on SR-900 (Renton WA) and construction on I-405 in Bellevue
1260 Spanish station under strong KMZT Beverly Hills classical; maybe XEMW in San Luis Rio Colorado SON.
1270 Spanish station (KFUT 750W?) plus other stuff
1280 KFRN LA very strong. KXTK Arroyo Grande CA under
1300 Strong station with Mike Huckabee Show (KROP runs it but shows 3-6PM, who else runs Huckabee on 1300?)
1320 Spanish station over mess. Not sure who, probably down in Mex. somewhere.
