Drivers: 83% think AM/FM is a must have, HD? 7%

From Inside Radio:

"Demand for AM/FM radio in the car remains rock solid: Eight in 10 Americans say it’s a must-have feature, according to Strategy Analytics. And internet radio is not yet drawing consumers away from broadcast radi 76% that listen to internet radio daily in the car also listen daily to AM/FM radio."

Even Satellite radio is a must have at 25% for drivers, where does this leave iBlock? Dead last at 7%.

It's funny how the figures have just about remained the same over the past 7 years, HD is a loser and must go where the rest of failed technology has gone: The Salvation Army bargain rack

Keep up the good work Strubie.

I still have to wonder if most people know what HD Radio is.....
Stations don't promote it much anymore, and when they do, it's still total confusion.

It would help if HD actually WORKED. There are so many technical issues, it was DOA.

Most HD stations have stopped running the HD Radio promo ads and now only ever mention it during the hourly ID. Some do promote their HD2/HD3 channels, but place greater emphasis on the fact that these channels can be heard via online streaming.

The headline on the referral post is misleading. This study does not say drivers prefer AM/FM over other forms of radio. It only finds a lot of people say they "must have" AM/FM in a new car. Duh?

I must have it. I don't listen much any more. But I expect it to be there. Like the spare tire.

I think it says a lot when the acting chairman of the FCC thinks the only solution for AM is to give the licensees FM translators. I think that's all you need to know. She admits that AM is in trouble, she recognizes owners are struggling, and she doesn't mention HD or any other digital fix. If the FCC thinks that way, so does just about everyone else.

How is the title misleading? Drivers were polled by Strategy Analytics and 83% of drivers said that AM/FM was a must have in cars as opposed to 7% who thought HD was a must have, HD was last on the list after internet radio, Satellite etc. I bet if they had included 8 track players on the list more people would have picked them over HD radio as a must have in a dash board.
Duh? Did you actually read the article?

I can remember a time when "Shortwave/LW Radio" would have been on that list.
(Actually, the only times I've ever used SatRad was for BBC.)

Did you read my post? The title of the referral post from the RD editor said this study showed people PREFERRED AM/FM. No where does the study make that claim. It only says people want it in their cars.

I must confess I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Last year it was what? Something like 0.7%? This year it is 7%. HD percentage is certain to be at least somewhere in the teens next year. Those numbers will only increase with time. Watch.
