Stan Piatt hanging up the headphones

Jeff Blanchard is trying out this week and Chad Zumock is joining him later this week. That should be interesting to hear with those two together.

Speaking of rumors, has anyone heard about EMF looking into WNIR? That would weird given both Air 1 and K-Love are on stations in Akron.

Neither KLove or Air1 are on Full Power Licenses though in Akron to my knowledge -- Both Air1 and KLove are on translators -- I could see them picking up say WNIR and putting KLove on it and then selling off the current translator for KLove (or moving Air1 to it and selling 102.5 or leasing it to an AM station)

EMF would have to shell out some really big bucks for the Kaiser, his brother and mother to consider selling. Even with the upheavals of the last 15 months, the station is still a cash cow with no real competition. It's not like Clear Channel is going to program WHLO as a local station. After all, it's Clear Channel and many of their talk stations are run out of the janitor's closet. It's amazing WHLO has a local host.

Don't assume any particular radio station in 2013 is raking in the cash like they did 5 or 10 years ago. The entire advertising industry in undergoing monumental changes and upheaval (primarily due to the explosive growth of the internet), and thus radio, tv stations, what's left of newspapers, outdoor, etc....are affected.

Traditional media may still run a lot of ads/commercials...but, rest assured: they aren't getting the rates they did just a few years ago.

Something else to remember...the big advertising bucks go to stations who's audience is heavily adults age 25-54....leaning female. Talk radio in most markets leans male, but most-importantly age 50+.

In the case of whether WNIR might sell...who knows. But, the advertising and media advertising landscape has really changed in the past few years. It's got to be an option many owners might consider today....an option they'd of never seriously thought about even 5 years ago.

It'll be interesting to see who WNIR picks for their morning show. I have a feeling Jeff Blanchard and/or Chad Zumock might get the gig. They'll bring a different energy to the program.

I do see that people are still trashing Couchburner on the Facebook pages for helping to get Stan and Maggie to leave. I wonder if the recent changes will cause more ratings to decline.

Couchburner did NOT have anything to do with Stan Piatt leaving. If anything, the 2 of them are friends.

Stan wanted to retire....to move out of the area...and totally get out of radio. Not everybody wants to work the same job forever.

Then how come people are blaming Couch? I see a lot of hate toward the midday host following Stan's departure. Then again, people seem to make up anything on Facebook and Twitter about people they don't really know.

You're right, Channel 61: 99% of people on social media have never worked in broadcasting....and have no real clue what's going on.

All I care to say is Stan & Denning are friends....that's for sure. And, Stan's retirement was 100% his desire to simply retire. Don't care to get into the info I've heard about Maggie's situation...and feel it's up to her to talk publically if she cares to.

Glad you clearified things Tim. I don't know why people on social media get so caught up on situations that have nothing to do with themselves. They might have been fans of Stan and Maggie that were upset to see their favorite personalities gone and need someone to blame...and that person was Couch.

Speaking of mornings, does anyone who the frontrunner is in the morning show gig contest? It may has well be a contest.
