Hot 96.9 Changes, Thoughts?

Starting about a week ago. Hot 96.9 made some drastic changes to their playlist. More Urban throwback Rap tracks are finally getting played on their playlist, as well as a couple R&B throwbacks they never played before. The currents were also tweaked with as well. Rihanna, Adele, and Kelly Clarkson have been excluded from their currents. It's not perfect, but it's way better than it ever was, due to their being more throwback tracks on the radio nowadays. They also got rid of all it's reggae content, (except for "Hold Yuh") possibly in favor of replacing them with Hip-Hop & R&B throwbacks. Personally, I think it's a step in the right direction for what they're aiming for, but I feel like they should have done this when they first started out, just to insure them more listeners of this type of old-school music they want to hear. What do you think of the playlist changes that this station has made?

I think they sound good right now. I still think they need to add an night time drive announcer to really make moves. But I listen to them far more than Jamn right now.

They sound AWESOME. MUCH more great hip hop and R&B. They're truly an urban-leaning rhythmic throwback station. Great mix of new and old. And the mix shows are awesome. MUCH MUCH better!! And, meanwhile Jam'n continues to be mediocre, stale and predictable with sliding ratings...

Exactly, the biggest issue I have with jam'n is that most of the songs they play are generic dance-pop, and mediocre pop-rap that blend with each other, with no fun tracks in the mix. Even "Get Lucky" took a tumble on their playlist, while the more generic tracks stayed in tact. At least Hot 96.9 plays tracks that people want to here, unlike filling your playlist with generic filler.

Just how long do you think JAMN will do something in response to this, or if this trend continues flip? And if so, to what?

Agreed!

All I have is two for all of you.
Weekdays listen to (Touch 106.1) (Touchfm.org weekdays at 5pm until about ? 5:30pm, and Saturday afternoons 3pm-6pm
Also
Listen to Big City 101.3 (Bigcityfm.net) Sunday nights 9pm-Midnight
After you listened to them at those times, you tell me who is better?
Hot 96.9 is ok. It's not all that. They're nothing to get excited over.

Touch 106.1 weekdays 5pm-5:30pm
Big City 101.3 Thursdays 10pm-1am, and Sundays 9pm-Midnight
and
104.5 XLO Fridays 7pm-Midnight are all better than Hot 96.9
For me, Hot 96.9 is nothing to get excited over.
Listen to those other stations at those times and you will change your mind

Agreed with Mr. Jerome Calvin, 96.9 is not hot. It's just another hip-hop and R&B station like Jam'n 94.5 playing a lot of the same music. 96.9 tries to sound a little different, but is often reluctant to go back beyond the 90's for the throwbacks. It's become boring and predictable like Jam'n. I doubt Jam'n would play 80's, but 96.9 could certainly play a lot more, and that would make them finally sound different and unique from Jam'n, and not just another hip-hop and R&B station. There is so much great 80's hip-hop and R&B 96.9 could be playing. Also, on the Throwback Lunch with Roy Barboza, he should do some scratching and sound effects to make it sound more exciting.

I don't think you can compare a commercial station to a couple of pirates. GM is trying to skew younger with hot. They are trying to grab the listeners who use to listen to jamn and their kids. If they started playing 80's r&b on a regular basis the ratings will flatten out and the demos would skew older. I think they sound fine. They do sometimes throw in stuff that make me go wow I haven't heard that in a while. There is room for improvement but they haven't been out a year yet.

I still listen to them, but not all the time. At the current moment, I love "Evolution 101.7" they are on FIRE!!!!!! "Amp 103.3" should be disregarded, and turned into another format.

When 96.9 started playing garbage by the likes of macklemore or drake it ceased being a Rhythmic hot Ac and became basically a 94.5 clone.

what "Hot 96.9" should do, considering they are a Rhythmic AC station. They should (except noon-1pm, and except 5pm-6pm) they should play (all [new] AC music, and all [new] Urban AC Music), play those mixes at noon, and at 5pm.
If they can't do that, they should highly look into putting on "Quiet Storm" (Superadio.com) that show is on Monday-Thursday 7pm-Midnight.
What would be 100% better is, if they did this
-Weekdays-
3pm-7pm "The Doug Banks Show" (aurn.com) They play New and Oldschool Urban AC music
7pm-Midnight (Monday-Thursday) "The Quiet Storm" (Superadio.com
If I was the Program Director or Assistant Program Director, that's the first thing I would've done.

Sunday night, guess who was listening to "Big City 101.3" Kool DJ Red Alert. He was listenning to them Sunday night. Need I say more?
Hot 96.9 has to take chances.
