I have learned from a source that Rush Limbaugh will be coming back to WPHT-AM 1210 soon. From what the person has told me. Dom Giordano will ether be on from 9 or 10 AM until noon, Rush from noon-3 PM and Dick Morris from 3 PM to 6 PM or 7 PM . I would double check to confirm this info .
 
With all due respect, I don't think that twitter info is valid at all. If WPHT were not to pick up Rush, you'd see CC scrambling to buy an AM, or there would be more talk of a flip. I think the writing is on the wall, as it was in Boston, Rush returns to WPHT after the flip.

Bottom line, as much as many of you hate talk radio & would like to wish it dead, it's not dead and Rush still brings in an audience. He will not be void in Philadelphia.

Which brings me to my next question, should CC make a bid to buy WPHT from CBS, even if they had to sell of of their Philly stations, so they can get clearance for all of their shows? I have a topic about this here: http://radiodiscussions.com/showthread.php?653414-Would-you-be-shocked-if
 
I could be wrong about this, but I believe with the number of signals in the Philly market, CC could own up to 8 stations as long as no more than five of them are in one service. Example: They could own up to 5 FMs and 3 AMs if they wanted to. Right now they own 5 FMs and 1 AM. So, I don't think they'd have to sell one of their other stations if they bought WPHT.
But, IMHO, I don't think CC is going to buy PHT or any other AM station in the Philly market. I still believe CC/Premiere won't be too upset about Rush not being cleared by a station in Philly. They have bigger fish to fry, like finding replacements for Hannity's Cumulus stations by 1/1/14.
Now if this became a pattern ... if another top 20 market station decides to do without Rush, that might be different. That would look like a bad trend. But for now, Premiere can cast the Philly situation as, "Oh, we always had a clearance problem in that market. Philly is weird." Premiere is probably much more concerned about how many stations Ryan Seacrest is on compared to Rush.
I stand by my prediction: Hannity and Beck NOT back on PHT after IQ changes format; 50-50 chance at best Rush returns to PHT.

At this juncture, I don't see ANY company buying a whole talk station or trading another format for talk, just to guarantee one particular syndicated show is on. Even if it's Limbaugh.


And let's stop pretending Rush is as valuable to the format as he once was. He isn't. He's become much more of a liability to the format as a whole.
 
Okay, mark it down.. Rush 100% will be on PHT. We'll see who is right.

(and CC did buy WOR for Rush to be cleared in NYC.. Keep that in mind).
 
What source? That Twitter feed? She basically says you're full of ... that you're wrong.

Give it a rest, please. If we all chip in, can we pay Julius not to post anything about 1210 or anybody who has ever been on the station until some actual announcement is made?
 
If CC were to buy an AM in the city, why didn't they buy 950 from GM? Or did Family approach GM to buy? Do these nonprofits have more money than the big broadcasters? ie 950 and now 106.9 going back to nonprofit.

The prognosticating is just as honest as the complaining.

With IQ dead, CBS has less competition (KYW/WHYY/WPHT/WURD). They have the leeway do to what they wish with their lineup. With the (relative) stability of the live & local (compared to that of WHYY), why shake things up & spend more for syndication?

In terms of CC; with Q, Mix, 104.5, Power, and WDAS under their belt, aren't they doing relatively well enough in the market to not take the risk of blowing up a station (or purchasing one) to float money on a sinking act?
 
This conversation exists because he was the centerpiece of a station that crashed and burned in a little more than a year. He may not be sinking, but he certainly didn't generate much lift for IQ.

That said, I don't think that a return to WPHT is out of the question--but the financial terms will have to be highly favorable for CBS.
 
Turn it around. Rush lost half his audience in this market. Rush "crashed and burned." He needs WPHT. Will they let him come back? How much would Premiere have to pay to get him back on?

If Rush is not cleared in this market and WPHT's numbers go back to where they were, a lot of stations in a lot of markets will be asking themselves if they really need Rush, need to pay the fee, need to deal with advertiser blacklists.
 
I tried Levin on 990 yesterday, there was no contest, compared to the sound and pure punch of IQ 106.9. IQ had so much better quality and overall sound even in Mono, where 990 sounded tinny and low. When I listen to him, I want everyone to hear his *zhargon, loud and clear, on 990 it is just not there.

*jargon in Yiddish.
 
It depends on how Premiere sweetens the deal. If WPHT can make more off Rush coming back than they can without him, he will go back.

But that would mean Premiere either giving the show free or paying CBS, which are both unlikely, so my money is still on "no."

also does this possible deal include the weekend shows that IQ is airing?
 
who cares if Rush, Hannity & others go to WPHT. AM radio is on life--support.

people I know who are under the age of 50------------ do not listen to AM radio &
some of them don't listen to FM either.
