Howie...stuttering and stammering?

I was always amused when Howie would skewer Mayor Menino and Ted Kennedy for their speaking faux pas.

At the same time, I used to notice Howie couldn't get a sentence out without stuttering and stammering himself.

LATELY...I've noticed this stuttering and stammering of Howies is even more pronounced.

All I can think to myself is that he is distracted (ever hear someone speaking when they are busy looking for copy?), or nervous (ratings, contract coming up?)....or the beginnings of some diminished mental capabilities from age.

I am not trying to "pile on" Howie. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed it.

"Thee....theee...ah-ah-uhhh....well, let just say h-----You can't even tell when he's...uhh...."

All the time.

Really amusing is when he interrupts himself, like when he starts to read the phone number, "ONE," only to blurt out something else that he just thought of, followed by "ONE, EIGHT SEVEN SEVEN" and another self interruption. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries just to say the phone number.

Howie has had some medical situations (he's had a lot of youthful regenerative work done) and one day somehow his meds were wacko and he started hiccupping, gulping, stammering etc.--Sandy or whomever was running the board quickly threw a "rerun" on" and I think he was sent home early...this was a couple yrs back. It could be age creeping up on him.

Senior moments. I get em too, even at 51. Was talking to someone in a restaurant and mentioned I visited a town in Penn.
that was the hometown of, you know, the famous St Louis Cardinal...uh...uh...can't remember his name but it's on the tip of
my tongue--uh... (looks up Stan Musial in Wikipedia on smartphone, scrolls down. Scrolls down) Stan Musial! Yeah that was it! (That happened on Tue at the 99 in Revere...)

Hannity had been known to interrupt himself--"so we're going to talk about, and oh by the way tonight on the TV show? Karl Rove.
So the Obamacare discussion, oh, and be sure to take advantage of LobsterGram. (Ad slogan). So today, on our busy phones,
we're going to..."

Not to hijack the thread, but have you heard Limbaugh’s voice lately? The nasally voice sounds like the mocking voice he used for his targets (“Libs”, “Tree Huggers”, etc.).
I suspect it is related to his hearing issues——has he addressed it (the voice) publicly?
To be honest, while I used to listen all the time (either live or to an overnight “best of”/rebroadcast), I’m lucky to tune in on a rare occasion when I happen to be in the car during his show. ;)

Howie Carr... the same guy who clawed his way to where he is by attacking Jerry Williams for being too old to do talk radio anymore when in reality he was younger than Carr is now when he started his personal attack on Williams.
Carr also used the gossip columnist whores at the Herald to plant blind items about Williams limping down Charles Street chasing after an alleged girlfriend. For the record and any one who ever listened to him would verfify Jerry Williams had a reoccuring case of gout. [ coincidence that Howie Carr has foot problems].
So, looks like Howie Carr is just getting his just a dose of what he dealt out. And it sounds like Howie Carr is aging faster than Jerry Williams ever did at the age.

Hey, I don't begrudge anyone a senior moment...I have a few myself. I'm sure we all have.

Or adverse reaction to medication, or whatever. We're all human. Just wondering why it's gotten particularly bad lately.

(Did we ever get an acknowledgement of that day with the sudden re-run?)

Yes Sandy and Howie mentioned on air and there was a thread on this board about it. Also I meant to type that I'd typed St Louis Cardinals in Wiki to get the answer..not Stan M which was the answer

You mean Nancy Shack.
Carr lost his very limited fastball a long time ago.
What a bore.

Considering that Mr. Carr has made a living out of no-holes-barred mocking of people's physical/mental shortcomings and mannerisms, whatever he does or says, or how he appears, is fair game. Tough cookies. If you live by the sword...

Howie's been stuttering for awhile now but the stuttering was really noticeable during the Whitey trial, I chalked it up to him being tired and distracted. I know he's got a lot going on when he's on the air, looking for articles, reading articles, watching tv news, taking calls, etc but it seems lately the stuttering and being distracted has become worse. With everything he's got going on, radio show, column, book tours, etc. I guess it's to be expected plus he's getting older so it's easier to forget things, we've all been there, hell, I'm still there

It is infuriating when a person makes fun of an individual that has a speech impediment. Oh, boy, I always hope that it hits close to home.

Howie loves to make fun of Menino but he pronounces words in a special way--'clapsed'..'Serra-cyoose'..'Ellen-oy'. Menino sometimes skips over letters or syllables --'Vietmese'...'an ionic sports moment'..at the DNC he referred to a great civil rights leader as Martha Luther King and the other day he gave out a 10 digit phone number with 11 digits and no, that didn't mean the 1- at the beginning. But as the mayor himself put it, "I'm no fancy talkah..."
We loved Archie Bunker's malapropisms..what was that huge labor organization? "The UFO-CIA".

Howie recently made a name for himself vis a vis Whitey Bulgur, I am embarrassed to admit, but, I grew up in Somerville, born in 46 High School, then onto college, The Winter Hill gang was well known, and we unfortunately knew many of the members who owned or hung around Pal Joey's lounge on Boradway. I bet those of us who graduated from High School in the 60's know more than Howie.

A caller mentioned the stuttering etc today on his show.
Howie did grow up one street away from Howie Winter on Winter Hill, "but that was the only connection between us", he
mentions in the preface of the Brothers Bulger (and Howie also said Bulger and his minions would tell Ch 56's Jack Hynes
"tell him we got a dumpster waiting for him"--this was around the time of the Robin Benedict case*--when they asked Jack
why Howie preferred to patronize another liquor store, not the So. Boston Liquor Mart.

Carr did not grow up in Somerville. He lived with his maiden aunt in Portland Maine before going to High School at Derefield Academy where his father manged the school book store. After marrying his first wife around 1977, Carr bought a house in the Winter Hill Section of Somerville a few streets over from the Marshall Street garage which was used as a Headquarters for the Winter Hill gang. Carr later moved to Acton. When his first wife showed him the door Carr lived in a rent controlled apartment in Cambridge.

It was right after Howie was piling on Mayor Menino again. The caller said that they should go on the road as a tag team comedy show.
