Katie Couric Show Facing Cancellation

Will Meredith Vierra take her time slot??

Katie is on the ABC o&os; if I'm not mistaken Meredith will be on the NBC ones.
which would rule out Meredith on the ABC stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago,
Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington, and Hartford, assuming
the NBC stations in all those markets take Meredith. She could be on the ABC o&os in
Houston, Raleigh/Durham, and Fresno, as well as any other ABC affiliate looking for a
replacement. However, Meredith's show doesn't start until next fall.

And to the poster who suggested she take Barbara Walters' place on "The View," she'd be
a natural choice (don't forget, they already have the "Today" show in common).

If Katie's show is canceled, it won't end until April or May anyways. I think many affiliates could air Meredith Viera's show in Katie's slot in the Fall, but not the ABC O&Os in markets with NBC O&Os as you mentioned.

Rachael Ray has been renewed to 2015-2016. I think WABC and WPVI will still clear it. WABC is a vital clearance.

KABC/LA has Dr. Oz. Would Disney try to outbid Fox Station Group for Dr. Oz, in NYC and Philly? Getting Dr.Oz would likely suit WABC and WPVI's daytime better.

ABC could likely easily take it from Capitol Broadcasting Group in Raleigh. Disney should have deeper pockets and easily triumph.

In Chicago, I could just see WLS tweaking their limited daytime schedule around with Jeopardy/Inside Edition going back at the 3pm hour.

In the Bay Area, KGO would have to battle it out with Cox's KTVU, if it wanted Dr. Oz.

I don't think ABC would overbid for it in so many markets, but NYC, Philly and Raleigh could be attempted. No guarantee though, and Fox might win keeping it in NYC/Philly.

As for Katie going to The View, I could see it, but most likely she'd take Whoopi's "moderator" chair to be the first person that speaks on the hour. Whoopi would likely have to accept taking a middle seat.

ABC has to be thinking that their daytime is vulnerable, with 2-3 hours uncertain and weak on some key owned affiliates. These affiliates used to rule daytime.

I think ABC might offer Lara Spencer or one of the popular GMA anchors a talk show in a year or two, or have to look for talent from the outside.

KMBC could move shows up so a 4pm Newscast can be launched.

Maybe she could join Sawyer for a Female Anchor Team or their News Channel.

They could show Daily Buzz Show best of ABC.

Move Katie to 4pm Problem sloved

Odd enough, that was tried on the Canadian side already. City TV recently moved the show from 4PM back to 3pm though, perhaps with an understanding that ratings are not very good no matter when the show airs.

Given reports of very low ratings of late for her show, I wouldn't even be surprised if "Katie" gets dumped very soon, perhaps with production ending in the next few weeks, first-run episodes ending during or at the end of the November "sweeps", and reruns continuing until around January 3rd.

But that would leave stations carrying her show having to scramble to find something to fill the time period as soon as January 6th.

Let's face it...it seems like everyone has a talk show. That dilutes the guest pool and dilutes the idea pool. Sooner or later, a bunch go away. A few months ago, I was wondering whatever happened to the Anderson Cooper show. It seemed like he was a hot commodity, and everyone wanted to see him. Then I found out his show was canceled for poor ratings. Oh well.

Well, it was an NBC headline that "Katie Couric engaged to her boyfriend", so she's probably moving along, ratings or no ratings.

She's very talented, but it seems as if she just doesn't connect with a large audience any longer. Today basically went with the closest thing to a Katie clone that could be had, Savannah Guthrie, and the ratings have fallen. Could she move to 'The View'? Possibly, but I don't think she'd be any more of a hit there than she is on her own show.

BPatrick - Umm.....I hate to break it to you but ABC doesn't own WFAA in Dallas. Belo (Soon to be Gannett) does

Cheers & 73 :)

And now we have Alec Baldwin in Primetime on MSNBC talking to newsmakers in an entertainment show format every Friday Night. It'll be interesting to see how long that lasts....

Cheers & 73 :)

Katie is actually on my local NBC affiliate in Seattle - KING 5 at 3PM weekdays. If it gets cancelled, I suppose Ellen would go to 3PM, and KING would begin 4PM news to compete with KOMO and KCPQ...

I didn't say ABC owns WFAA; having lived in Dallas/Ft. Worth I'm well
aware that Belo has owned that station for decades. I did say that
NBC has an o&o in that market (KXAS), and that more than likely that's
where Meredith will air there. ABC also does not own WJLA Washington,
WPLG Miami, KGTV San Diego, or WTNH Hartford/New Haven, all of which
are in markets with an NBC o&o. The point is that none of those ABC affiliates,
nor o&os WABC, KABC, WLS, WPVI, and KGO, are lilkely to get Meredith.
OTOH, KTRK, WTVD, and KFSN are ABC o&os in markets without an NBC o&o,
and could pick up Meredith.

Will be interesting to see what WSOC replaces her with. They air Katie on a day delay at 10 and again after Nightline. Maybe they will get Meredith. They are already losing Dr. Oz to WJZY next fall. I read on Broadcasting and Cable Wendy Williams is going there from WAXN but I don't know when.

Next fall I could see Wendy at 10 and Meredith at 3 on WSOC. Although they could start 4:00 news instead of acquiring Meredith and move Dr. Phil back to 3.

Speaking of The View, I wonder if ABC would consider moving it up an hour live to 10am eastern, when Barbara Walters retires, whether Katie joins it or not. While there is risk involved in timeslot changes, the 10am hour would follow GMA and Kelly, and keep a stronger connected lineup. It'd also give the show a little bit of change. I think Rachael's show isn't doing super in ratings and it's not an ABC network or syndicated show.

WABC and WPVI's 3pm hour will be hard to fill on short notice esp. if the station cannot procure Dr.Oz if Katie is canceled. It's not like ABC can whip up another talk show in short notice. Another shift that might make sense is delaying the afternoon lineup, thus

9am Kelly and Michael (no change)
10am The View (live at 10am)
11

1 Rachael
2 The Chew
3 GH

As for that 11am hour, there are couple of choices, including launching a local show for New York. It probably won't happen since NY rarely gets local shows, but Philly could get one.

Another choice is filling it with some low key syndicated show like a People's Court wannabe show for a year.
Lastly, one that I think would be interesting would be syndicating Windy City Live from Chicago, or atleast airing it on more ABC owned stations somewhat like Access Hollywood Live's clearance.

It's a great morning show.In Chicago, I would have moved Windy City Live to 10am, and delayed The View to 11am, when Kelly & Michael moved over to the station, rather than giving it the shaft treatment and move 2 hours away from it's original time slot.
