Phil Zachary leaves Curtis for Entercom Boston

He's clearly been hired to be the person to go in and clean house. I know they have some well paid hosts that aren't bringing in ratings or revenue. Much like he did at Curtis Media. When the ones at the top are too spineless to do it themselves, they hire schmucks like Zachary to come in. He has some probably minor knowledge running clusters but the only buzz coming out of Curtis Media over the last decade has been them firing people and their stations turning into crap.

Just so happens that's what has been going on in Boston, BUT they still are paying people huge money. Beware Entercom Boston, the axe will be swinging your way soon.

I wonder sometimes how much longer will Curtis Media Group exists?, especially since they own stations that are losing money.

I've worked full and part-time for Curtis for 12 years. Phil made a lot of money for the company, and if you were good, he was very loyal to employees. Keeping a full house even during the recession. There has never been a "cleaning house" as described above.

Yes, Phil has a strong personality, but that's part of being a leader. Some didn't like it and moved on. Many others have stayed.

The downfall of AM radio was certainly not Phil's doing, it's time marching on. I suspect Phil will be successful in Boston. Good luck to him.

I agree with Tina, worked around Phil in the past and he is fair, smart, & legit. Never experienced a 'cleaning house at Curtis'. People come and go, formats survive or that don't. Nothing personal and it's not always tied to one particular person, it's business. Phil's a business guy, big loss for Curtis. The company makes good money for a small operator and a good roster of formats, so they've got some large shoes to fill.

Tell that to the people on 5th street in Winston-Salem

WSJS was going to die if CBS still owned it, too. it is not a full market AM signal. It lost Rush Limbaugh to CC. Phil Zachary was nothing to do with that. I blame the market... Greensboro is a horrible radio market - you can't charge a rate to save your life and the top stations are fighting to the rate bottom. CC Raleigh is one of the most profitable radio groups in the country... I've seen the numbers.
