L&L BROADCASTING, owned by ALPHA BROADCASTING Chairman LARRY WILSON, has agreed to purchase radio stations from the BORDER MEDIA BUSINESS TRUST, which include Adult Hits KJXK (102.7 JACK FM); Talk KTSA-A; Sports KZDC-A (1250 ESPN); Spanish Sports KSAH-A-KHHL (ESPN DEPORTES); Regional Mexican-Norteno KSAH (NORTENO 104.1); Regional Mexican KLEY-F (LA LEY 95.7); and Top 40 KTFM.** A release from PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS lists the price at approximately $31 million.

Can anyone make any guesses as to what L&L will do with these stations right off, if anything?
I hope they finally fix KHHL and bring new life back into it, as well as the rather bad audio processing of KJXK and possibly KTFM.

We may possibly see a flip or two? Perhaps something will flip to dance, alternative, Texas country music, Urban, or Jamaican Dubstep? LOL at that last one.

I highly doubt Jack or KTFM will be touched/tweaked. As for the remainder of the cluster, only time will tell.

*L & L means Live & Local
*Larry Wilson is founder of Citadel Communications

Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe this will be the largest market for L & L.

Technically correct, though Alpha Broadcasting is owned by the exact same people and is in the Portland, OR market, which is slightly larger than San Antonio.
 
You might want to correct your article, mouse. BMP is HQ'ed in Houston, not San Antonio.

Besides that, I wouldn't expect Wilson to say "We're blowing up everything in San Antonio and firing everyone!" Suffice it to say, there will be changes in San Antonio. For starters, KHHL will come back to life in one form or another. Either L&L keeps it and programs it for Karnes City, LMA's it and basically puts the for rent sign in the window, or they sell it and you end up with a religious format of sorts. Wouldn't surprise me to see EMF make a play for KHHL if it is placed on the market by L&L.

Wouldn't be surprised to see "Norteno" move to a different signal such as 94.1 either, and let me go ahead and put it out there before someone comes on here and seriously brings this up, but now's the chance to send KTFM home to 102.7! Lol.
 
Well yeah, it's basically 6+ even with KTFM. Both hover around a 3-3.5 share. I said I wasn't serious about KTFM moving back to 102.7. Just wanted to stop someone else from inevitably bringing that up. If KTFM does leave 94.1, it's because KTFM died.
 
If KTFM is even with Jack and Jack is on a better signal, KTFM would probably kill the competition on great signaled 102.7?

Trey Ware show and he said he feels "great this morning" so this sale should be good thing for Trey.

Also, what about any changes over at Sports radio KZDC 1250?

The speculation was these station would be sold over two years ago. Sure took a long time to come up with a buyer!

I hope KTSA upgrades their PM drive host or moves him to a 7-10pm shift. Sean Ryma has never impressed me as a provider of good news talk. Bring in someone from another market. Adam McManus has been filling in on occasion. Put him in the PM drive slot. There's got to be a better option.

I wonder if the new owners might dial back the politics on Trey's show, and make it more chatty like WOAI. I get a little tired of his relentless haranguing of Obama. We've got a city council that spends money like it's going out of style and a state government that's full of dysfunction, but Trey's show barely acknowledges either one.

Finally, it'd be nice if they'd beef up the news staff and cover more spot news.

AM drive is the obvious missing local daypart over there. Problem is that Mike and Mike are a nice, slick counterweight to the laconic goofiness of Mike Taylor.
 
BMP/Border has not been headquartered in Houston since 2007, when founder Tom Castro departed the company. Jeff Hinson, who was brought in to replace him, relocated Corporate to Dallas (in the Richards Group building on Central Expressway), where it has remained post-Hinson and through the Border Media Business Trust era.
 
It's typical for any new owner not to disclose changes to their new acquired stations until everything is finalize.

Anyone know how well or not so well the revenue is for 95.7 and 104.1? I wouldn't be surprised if we see an Active Rock, Alternative or a Country format come out of this.
 
KHHL is off the air again.
Now 95.7 and 104.1 are both Regional Mexican. Why do they have two Regional Mexican stations? I've listened to them both and the music sounds slightly different, but they're both pretty much the same thing and they're competing!
