Was Loudell Fired?

Allan Loudell is missing from WDEL. He posted on his blog that he is making yet another trip to Chicago to see mommy. What's strange is he is absent in the middle of a ratings period. Wilmington is still a diary market and they only do two surveys are year (most markets of comparable size do four, which provides almost continuous measurement). This is the radio equivalent of "sweeps," when stations go all out to get public attention. Except now their midday and PM drive host is missing.

When air talent takes time off during key periods like this, they usually don't come back. Often they are notified on vacation. On an earlier visit to mommy, Loudell got a call that his station had been sold out from under him.

Well, his bio is still on the website.

What do you want the guy to do, tell his high school not to have its 40th reunion in the middle of the book?

I'm sure they can have a reunion without him. I'm sure the jocks can find somebody else to shove in a locker, give a whirlie or a wedgie. It's sort of pathetic that he wants to go back.

The interesting part is the station letting him go during the book. Sounds like they think his presence is not essential.

Fred,

Let me assure you that Allan will be back from his trip to see his ailing mother on Tuesday.

And we're still not for sale.

Gimme a break

Yeah, like taking a job in a market ranked in the 70s means you can NEVER, EVER, EVER take a vacation, EVER, between March and June and September and December. Even after a decade, even after you've busted your balls for the place and probably never taken a sick day, and even after you worked overtime during the snowstorms for no extra money because you are salary. Look, WDEL won't die in the ratings because Alan took a few days off. Sheesh.
P.S. Fred: Guess they really AREN'T for sale, huh? Why hurt the numbers before you have a buyer? Good night, Nurse.

Stations are never for sale, until the suits announce that they've been sold. That specifically includes Loudell's prior employer.
Employees are almost always the last to know.

Maybe management has decided Loudell's absence doesn't hurt the numbers. When he was the competition, they consistently beat him. Lots of marginally talented people willing to work cheap.

Telling Fred something as fact doesn't stop him from making stuff up. Just a warning.

If you are looking for a marginally talent, rabid right-winger, willing to work cheap to become "Medium Market Guy," SMG's your man. And he'll fit right in.
