Disney To Sell Their O/O Local Stations?

Rumors have started that Disney is considering selling all of their Owned and Operated TV Stations. Possible buyer...Sinclair.

Rumors have started that Disney is considering selling all of their Owned and Operated TV Stations. Possible buyer...Sinclair.

That rumor has been going around for a few years now. I don't see why they would since big-market stations are cash cows. I could see them maybe selling their Fresno and Raleigh-Durham stations, but that's it.

Disney stock is trading near a 52 week high, which says to me that their stockholders feel they're on a good course. It also says they're not hurting for cash. If anything, I could just as easily see Disney thinking about reviving the radio network, especially now that Cumulus is no longer using the name. Let's start that rumor.

This has to be a head fake again. Remember when Rich Lieberman claimed that CBS Radio will go to Cumulus but then it turned out that it was CBS Sports Radio was going to be a joint venture between CBS and Cumulus last year. Maybe the smaller stations will be sold to third parties but thats it. I don't see big stations like KABC7, WABC7 and KGO7 in that mix. But then again ABC Radio and ABC Radio O&O's did go to Citadel later Cumulus in 2006-2007.

Important to go to the root story. Don't comment on a post here, or the MediaBistro piece, but the New York Post piece that is at the bottom of it all:

Frankly, that one looks pretty solid. They're hiring an investment bank to crunch the numbers and see if it makes sense.

Billions of dollars in one fell swoop versus the maybe 20 years of operating profits it would take to equal that money....at a time when local broadcast stations have an uncertain future? That could be a compelling bit of math.
