WGCH Sale "Imminent"

Anybody care to wager if it will end up as part of the WSHU radio group? Then we can have the distinction of not having a single, community-serving AM station until you get to Bridgeport.

The Danbury News-Times reported today that Rocco Forte has filed an application with the FCC to acquire WGCH. Forte is a Hartford native and former CEO of Abate Insurance Agency and AIA Risk Services. As of November 4, WGCH will operate under an LMA with Forte until transfer of control is approved by the Commission. The article states that current plans are to keep and expand the local news and sports coverage and syndicated talk format.

WGCH is in the shadow of New York City. There is no lack of competition in the market. I wish Mr. Forte the best in his venture.

I remember performing field engineering for their Stamford Classic Marathon coverage ages ago and I was really impressed on how involved the station was with providing news and community information. I do hope Mr. Forte succeeds, as there's too few stations that actually serve the community.
