Justin Pawlowski: Two Strikes, Two Outs, and the bases are empty

I can't find any other thread, but for those who haven't heard, about three months ago Justin's show has once again be retooled.

He's gone from doing a brokered show on 1010 where he spent more time schilling water filters than talking Bucs/Rays/Lightning/Magic to co-hosting a FM show with Gary Shelton where his co-host was fired after he spent more time on the road instead of in the studio (why the hell would a columnist need to be flown to The Masters? Gary can write his column while watching on TV) to being bumped up to 9AM-Noon to make way for Jim Rome to now co-hosting with MetroTraffic "update guy" Jim Lighthall on "Fan Interference."

This has to be the last chance for Pawlowski at this point. He's gone through four format changes now and he still only pulls a 0.8 and gets slaughtered by BBC World News and The Diane Rehm Show on WUSF, not to mention Ron & Ian, his actual competition.

I don't see it as a 100% last chance. The station as a whole pulls about 0.8 so its not like Justin is bringing the ship down. I dont think the station would have invested four reboots in Justin if they didn't believe in him. I also could be wrong. But the station isn't helping Justin's situation by changing timeslots and co-hosts every other quarter.

The station as a whole has a .8, but if you break it down to the target demo and middays on 98.7 you'll see a different story. Whether Justin is preforming well or not, the fact is you're simply not reading the ratings correctly.

Couldn't agree more. Pawlowski was fired from 620 after he was involved in a physical altercation with Ron Diaz. He has moved on to CBS with both 1010 and 98.7 and never experienced a modicum of success.
I have friends tied in closely in local sports talk, and have heard multiple stories of him screwing over people. Can't always believe what you hear, but I've heard it enough that it's probable.
The good news for him is that jerks can still do well in radio. The bad news is he is a one trick pony that has never delivered an ounce of ratings success.
Funny thing is he burned bridges at 620. 1040 will soon be non existent, even though it already is worthless. And 98.7 will be switching formats at some point in the near future. What's Pawlowski going to do then?

What's Pawlowski going to do then?

I've heard from several CC buddies that when he left 620, it was suggested he might want to look at moving to another market, but his response was "I can't, I've got a mortgage."

If he ends up getting pink-slipped at 98.7, he will probably have no choice but to put his house up for sale and move to a new city where he hasn't burned his bridges. There are too many other former "sports full-timers" in this market trying to gobble up what little "freelance" work is available hosting pre and post-game shows on rival stations for him to make a living just from doing that.

Hell, look at JP Peterson, Italiano Insurance is his only source of income right now.

The story I heard about the "physical altercation" with Diaz did not include it actually getting physical. Certainly things can get volatile with hgih-strung personalities. However, I will note that Justin is about half Ron's age and nearly twice his size, which I see as not a good combination for Ron. Knowing both guys slightly I really have to say that I doubt anything physical happened.

As far as Justin's work is concerned it's amazing how often I turn to 98 point 7 and hear something other than local sports being discussed...I mean we have three major league teams (at least in name) and a Division I college program. Go to XX 1090 in San Diego or 710 ESPN and the fact that they are doing local radio hits you right in the face. I also have problems with Justin's response to callers. At times he seems uninterested in what they have to say or is condescending. Go to 1090 and listen to Hacksaw Hamilton challenge his listeners to "get off your ass and get on the phones" then listen to how he engages people, especially the ones who disagree with him.

I'm still hopeful CBS is going to stick with the format and I really would like for Justin to do well. Just my 2 cents...

I hope CBS sticks with the format, as well. What I don't understand is they somehow brought in worse programming then SOME of the talent they had at 1010. JP Peterson isn't my cup of tea, but he is superior to every current member of the 98.7 team. Tom Kraznicki (?) and Bobby Fenton are better options. Hell, even The King David Show was better than the monstrosity that is the Booger and Rich show.

The problem with Pawlowski is he should never be the main attraction. He could be decent as a secondary member, MAYBE a cohost. But none of his cohosts have been worth a damn. The only way 98.7 survives is bringing in some new talent, being edgy, and sticking with it. The current talent is posting abysmal ratings from what I've been told.

Pawlowski better hope he is given one more shot, because 620 certainly isn't bringing him back.

You're a little behind the times. JP has taken a job in Atlanta. http://www.accessatlanta.com/weblog...ne-introduces-new-morning-show-alge-crumpler/ He's doing fine...for the moment...this is radio we're talking about after all.

Why would I be behind the times? The reason I referenced Peterson was because he was the drive time 3-6pm on 1010, yet was not carried over to 98.7. I am aware he is in Atlanta, but that does not lessen the fact that very mediocre talent was chosen over him.

palowski

That is hilarious... Palowski was gave raw but true opinions/facts on the Bucs and Rays. Lighthall was a great co-host w/ great knowledge in football both college and pros, basketball (USF, college and pros) as well as football pro and college. The whole team was awesome. Honestly I switch back and forth to both sports staions throughout my work day. 9-12 fan "interface" and 12-3 Ron+Ian then 3-on Booger+Rich. I definitely will miss Justin's show as well as Boogers. Justin-Season ticket holder/college football player so I think he's passionate and informative. Also pretty sure he gives an awesome angle on whats going on w/ bucs football mixing in rays, lightning, and USF. Booger 2-time Superbowl champ with bucs and then with colts! Great info/experience. Hope the best for all these guys. Right at Christmas time too post having a baby for Palowski is crappy. Good luck boys! I also love hallmark Christmas movies so enjoy that toughguys.
