Azores -- thoughts on reception

I'm curious - has anyone tried listening for mediumwave stations from the Azores? Particularly any of the clears on the East Coast? If you haven't, what do you think you'd recieve?

My initial thought...the AM's out of NYC and Boston would come in very clear most nights.
 
Been there DXing with a Tecsun PL-606. In the Azores, you'll hear New York AMers and many of the stations with highly directional patterns (like some stations in Boston, Norfolk, Miami, Baltimore, etc.) into the mid and eastern Atlantic Ocean at night. In that area, you will also hear a lot of annoying hetrodynes coming from European and African stations operating on odd/split frequencies. I was able to hear WTAR-850 from Norfolk and WOR in New York in broad daylight (Noon to 1 PM), 500 miles east of Bermuda while taking a trans-Atlantic cruise in the fall of 2011.
 
I'm curious as to how far east one can hear MW stations from the Azores (or Madeira, for that matter). You'd think Africa and the Middle East would be audible, as well as most of Europe.
 
No. I spent my time DXing the AM band. I did check SW bands and was generally not impressed. A year ago, on a cruise from L.A. to Hawaii, there was a spot mid-way between L.A. and Hawaii where I could hear nothing on AM during the day. I tried listening to SW and the only thing I clearly heard were WWV and WWVH and Brother Stair! I must admit, I know SW has changed in the last few decades, but there really was nothing to listen to out in the Pacific on SW when I tuned in. This was a year ago in October.
 
That time in 2009 where a DXer in Northern Ireland got 90.7 from Montgomery, Al. - amazing DX opening. Also hit the west coast that day (6/26) and I got my first new Es log in two years - KWYR 93.7 Winner SD.
