CSN translator on 107.3...

I know it was probably posted on this board before, but where was that CSN translator located on 107.3? It comes in on my newly-acquired Grundig G5 here in Bremerton, loud and clear, like a local station!

Congrats on getting the Grundig G5. A couple of things.

1 - The FM is very good, and normally I can get KSWW and K271AH mixing on 102.1 here in Marysville, as well as all the Vancouver stuff and CHLY 101.7. During E-skip openings it's common to get loads of interesting west coast and Rocky Mountain FM DX on my G5 - have gotten 16 states on FM so far (WA/OR/CA/WY/CO/NV/AZ/NM/TX/NE/KS/SD/ND/MN/IA/UT)
2 - The AM is also really good and I have gotten 500 logs on AM since I started DXing in 2005ish. Logged 22 states so far.

I think that CSN translator is coming from somewhere in east King County. Here in Gig Harbour/Tacoma I will get CSN with CHBE 107.3 trying to break in.

Like I posted in another thread, I don't see the CSN translators lasting long. The LPFM wave is coming and there maybe some new AM translators (as local services they now have priority over the religious translators) coming as well. And the new religious translators are likely ones approved from the 2003 window just before the 2013 shutdown (Back then, the FCC was deluged in applications by the Jesuscasters, many of them technically impossible.)

I don't know what the commissioners use for brains, but if I saw several large rooms at the FCC office filled up to the ceiling with translator applications from roughly the same two applicants (CSN/EMF and their shadow subsidiaries), I'd have automatically thrown them all out. The FCC now limits the number of applications per applicant. But apparently after 10 years, they're still working on the 2003 window.....

So now K-LOVE on 95.3 in Seattle. Great - waste of bandwidth. Most LPFMs are wastes of bandwidth because they have to operate with 100W - or no LPFM. So let the interference begin!

Well......Not quite. The 100 watt rule isn't without exceptions. Tower height is a factor. Since it's Seattle, many of them will likely be placed atop buildings of X height, so the actual wattage of each may vary by building.

I heard of a few applicants from Lynnwood and Everett. So yeah, FM DXing is all but toast in the greater Seattle/Tacoma/Everett area.....

As of last night I am still getting a sign of CKZZ on 95.3 from my house, but the reception quality was toast. I think I am getting more fed up with these translators then anybody.

These translators are out of control. Noticed K-love on 95.3. Is this new?

No "Positive and Encouraging" K-Love on 95.3 for me, but I can hear a faint country station on there, which might be KXXK out of Aberdeen, or KXLE out of Ellensburg (which I've received before on my computer's TV/FM card, which was surprising). Can't wait to play with this G5 at my 2 favorite DX'ing spots, in the parking lot of the East Bremerton Grocery Outlet, and in Purdy. Surprised someone donated this G5 at the East Bremerton Goodwill. I knew I should grab it when I spotted it!

The only "Positive and Encouraging" thing about "K-Love" is how they grovel for money for the lifestyles of their board of directors by twisting a loophole in the FCC translator rules.

They've got way too many translators throughout the U.S. Not needed.

Hey I have a question for you!
What spots in Purdy and Gig Harbour yield you the best DX's? I usually do Peacock Hill

And now CSN is on 107.3 in Mount Vernon. Noticed this while listening to CHBE slowly fade into religious blabber in Burlington on the way to Everett this morning....

I've picked up KKRZ 100.3, like a local just north of Gig Harbor. Ditto KXL, KINK and KXXK 95.3 from Aberdeen.

CSN killing more British Columbia action - how nice! :(

I know i'm probably in the wrong here, but i believe something really needs to be done about commercial radio too. I dont fault KXXK in Aberdeen, they are perfectly in range to use the 95.3 freqency. However, I truly believe that KXL 101.1 needs to power their transmitter down. 101.1 is chock full of different signals already, KGHO is not helping by broadcasting on that channel either. However KXL is TOO much of a blowtorch. Driving north near Everett a few months ago, I was picking up KXL without a sign of CFMI, which I simply do not understand. I think KXL needs to turn that 100kw torch down a little, or change or make their transmitter more directional. Again, I may be biased as I would like to pick up CFMI on my car radio, but I dont see why a Portland news station has to be that powerful.

There is enough space for KXL in Portland and CFMI to co-exist. I think that might have been in July, when there were at lease a couple days with very strong tropo down that way. I really do want a G8, and I would be interested to see what difference in reception I get on it when compared to my iPod, which I've only received KXL on once, on one said good tropo day in early July.

The Grundig G8 is at Radio Shack for about $50. I picked up mine at the Radio Shack in Downtown Bellevue (WA) but there's a Radio Shack in Lynnwood, and another in Edmonds on Ballinger Way (104).

Your reception should be completely different than that iPod of yours. The telescopic stock whip pulls in all kinds of stuff on FM - Vancouver, Victoria, NW WA translators all good. Aberdeen WA is normal as is KKCW 103.3, about 3 times a week.
