Boston Ratings

Rock"n"Roll radio tells lame country "buzz off", we are moving into 2nd place.

WODS still on an uptrend.

Lousy WERS pays for their lousiness with a ratings hit. I guess most of the lost listeners went to lousy WUMB.
Maybe they will discover they are both lame stations now.

I have to disagree about WUMB, my wife and I love WUMB.

As for WERS, I turned them on this morning and promptly turned them off as George Knight started playing the burnt out AAA song "No Rain" by Blind Melon.

It's a favorite of mine, too, but unfortunately its extensive network and low ratings make it one of the leading objects of derision and snark in this forum, right up there with WUFC, Amp and HD Radio.

WERS is garbage. Part of that ratings loss is probably them making the brilliant decision to axe two of their longtime specialty shows, Rockers and 88.9 at Nite. Now they're just watered down AAA. GOOD RIDDANCE to them. I hope they get a 0.0 next time.

Observations about the futility evinced by WUFC are NOT snark; WUFC is bad, REALLY BAD in so many ways. They failed utterly to provide a localized sports-talk-radio format in morning drive and midday. So their typical day consists of satellite sports talk with lots of focus on out-of-town professional teams and out-of-town collegiate games. Then a localized talk show pops up in afternoon drive, and the hosts are forced to jabber non-stop while giving out the phone number to call in while receiving no calls or very few. When AM 1510 was WWZN and progressive talk, they filled the spaces between seemingly paid ads with PSAs of course. The strangest one that was broadcast every day was one that featured a talking slug urging Stephen to go to the forest. (The foundational myth of Judaeo-Christian mythology features a talking snake, so don't laugh). This PSA ran ALL THE TIME, so Stephen apparently should visit the forest in the dead of winter! Now WUFC keeps running a PSA about the problems grizzly bears are having trying to survive in the forest, maybe by eating the children who were previously urged to visit the forest! (Judaeo-Christian mythology contains a story about 42 children who were slaughtered by bears for making fun of a "prophet"; explain to me why it's called the "good book"). The only thing on the whole station that could be expected to attract any listeners would be the beisbol games en Espagnol and BU hockey.

Not sure why you had to insert the anti-religion rant, but I agree that the derision of WUFC is deserved and that the station is not the target of snark. However, with so few people in marketable demos even listening to AM anymore, and both local sports stations gone to FM, you've got to wonder if anything will ever work on 1510 again. They'd need a huge, costly marketing campaign, since most people have been unaware of anything on the frequency for years, and hire a lot of local talent with no guarantee of any success. Might as well go dark.

This sounds an awful lot like someone Glavinating... Haven't had that in awhile here. Welcome back!

What ratings "hit" are you talking about.

Their last 4 ratings were: 0.8 0.8 1.2 0.8

Looks pretty steady to me......with a negligible hick-up at one point.

I likewise agree that the anti-religion rant was uncalled for. However, I do maintain that 1510 could - but need not - consider going dark, due to its alleged 50,000-watt signal's not being allowed to leave its antenna farm. Why waste all that power going into antennas which do nothing but cause lots of destructive interference (read, "put huge nulls everywhere")? They might consider dropping down to, say, 5 KW and going omnidirectional.

Since 850 is doing quite poorly, 1510 needs to find another format.

Who knows if that's even possible. Sometimes a higher powered signal does nothing to extend the 'reach' of a signal...but give a stronger and more concentrated signal over the intended area. Why dilute the signal over the major populous?

Oldies 1510! Beatles and before!

15-10---the music of my life....now with Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Kenney Rogers, etc.

C'mon, it HAS TO do better than what they are doing now!

But...but they are the flagship station of the World Champion Medias Rojas de Boston! Somos los ganadores
mis amigos. Y vamos a seguir luchando hasta el final...

But yeah they could go oldies. Or how about...oldies in Spanish? Start with Eres Tu by Mocedades...

and the slow burial continues for WAAF.

I wouldn't be surprised if Entercom "blows up" at least the 107.3 portion of the WAAF simulcast by March and moves the Central Massachusetts outlet for the WEEI Sports Radio Network from 1440 to 107.3 (with 1440 becoming 24/7 ESPN Radio).

This way, Red Sox games next season would be on a strong FM signal in Metrowest and Central Massachusetts (along with being on FM in Boston, Springfield, and Cape Cod although the latter is not owned by Entercom), so WCRN-830 would no longer be needed as a Sox affiliate.

I believe Worcester is far enough from Boston that 'CRN could get the New York Yankees broadcast (I believe stations 40 or more miles away from a MLB team's home city can carry radio broadcasts of any MLB club), allowing The Evil Empire's radio broadcasts to be heard clearly in both Worcester and metro Boston (since WCRN transmits from a site west of Worcester with a directional signal beamed at both Worcester and Boston).

I could see WAAF remaining on only 97.7, aimed squarely at Boston, but I could also see 'AAF "blown up" entirely with 97.7 becoming (most likely) a simulcast of WRKO-680.

Skeptical Inquirer Magazine has an interview with Oliver Sachs about his book "Hallucinations". It's available free online at the website of its parent organization the Committee For Skeptical Inquiry, which uses csicop as its name and org as the suffix. (I'm doing this because I don't want to write the whole URL. I get lazy in November).

The Globe reports

“Dennis & Callahan” (and Minihane) earned an 8.8 share in the October Arbitron ratings, a time frame that included just one week of Red Sox postseason games. While D&C trailed 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich,” it was tops among men 35-54 in the period.
