Has THE MIDDLE lost it?

After watching their new episodes this season something is missing. Maybe the laughs. The writing seems to be under performing. What used to be funny and goofy situations has now turned into really dumb situations that seem to ramble on and on without being funny........like you're hoping they can just finish this scene.....and move on to something else.

I would call the episodes uneven, somewhat like Last Man Standing but some of them are very good. The college scenes with Axle were very funny this past week but Sue goes over the top frequently. Brick seems to have all the good one-liners.

Brick has great lines. He and Dr. Sheldon Cooper are somewhat different but both are very intelligent with no idea how to interact with others.

Sue has always been my favorite character on this show dating back to before I had ever seen an entire episode.

Ok, i'm doubling down on this topic.

The writing on this show has just gone downhill. This week's Thanksgiving show was a big mess. A couple "cute" situations, but nothing laugh out loud funny. The tired jokes about Brick and his Jello......just got tired. The actors looked like they were waiting to get a tooth pulled.........you could almost read "Let's hurry up and get this rotton scene over with" on their faces. The writing can make or break a series, and this season is a perfect example of that.

Everyone seems to have a different sense of humor and that seems to apply here. Except for the usual over-the-top insanity by Sue I thought the episode was pretty good. If nothing else it illustrates the folly of bringing together extended family and assuming they will get along.

I liked the episode a lot but when Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn complain about the state of TV today, you'd think the humor wouldn't have been quite so dirty. There's no need, for example, to use the word for urinate if you gamble away your money. And Rusty's ex was about as naughty as those sitcoms that the family values people want to bash.

'The Middle' has never really been what I would call a "highbrow" comedy, but at the same time, it is far from being the worst show on TV. It is kinda like its name says, right there in the middle.

That said, I don't foresee any of the kids on this show ever making it as adult actors. But I could be wrong.
