The longevity of Chuck Brown 40+ years after it's premiere is quite extraordinary.

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" first aired in 1966. Too bad the specials have to be chopped to fit in modern commercial loads.

Wonder if CBS has ever regretted letting the Peanuts franchise get away?

Was The Great Pumpkin shown in its entirety with filler for the rest of the hour or chopped up to fill 30 minutes?

In it's entirety, but the rest of the time was filled with You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown (even though only Virginia, Bill de Blasio in NY and a bunch of locals actually care about this year's Election Day).

I didn't see last Thursday night's airing, but an unedited "Great Pumpkin" would have run until at least 8:35pm Eastern, given current commercial loads, which would mean that "Not Elected" would have had huge cuts, or there were cuts in "Great Pumpkin" that most viewers were unaware of, probably both.

There are various "Peanuts" related forums/websites where specific show cuts have been discussed.
