Komo 97.7 how is the signal?

The transmitter is situated on South Mountain, located on the Olympic Peninsula. The signal is quite clear on the southern Olympic Peninsula, with Grays Harbour County, Pacific County, Mason County, Thurston County, and Lewis County receiving high quality coverage. Here in the Tacoma area, the signal is also terrific. KOMO-FM should be clearly audible in Seattle, and all of the way north to Lynwood before the signal begins to fades to a co-channel on 97.7

KOMO could never move to being FM only. KOMO FM is really only effective in the south sound. KOMO-AM covers the entire western region of the United States during the night hours.

I personally do not understand why Sinclair media brands KOMO on 97.7, as it does not cover the entire region of listeners.

I've picked up KOMO-FM about everywhere. Here it's top dog but CBUF in Vancouver likes to pick a fight at times (I'm in Marysville). Have also heard KOMO in Portland, OR and Wapato/Yakima, WA (as well as the farthest, Eugene OR's Global Tuners node at 200 miles away).

Should be like a local in Downtown Seattle. Same with KXXO and KGY 96.9 - I remember when KGY was Real Country, there was one store at Pike Place Market playing KGY over the intercom - instead of KKWF or KMPS, both due to the horrible multipath static-filled signals they have down there at the Waterfront.

Why are the signals in downtown Seattle so multipathed? Is it because of terrain of downtown Seattle?

When I've gone North of Seattle up to around Shoreline, 97.7 can get a little spotty, just depends on the day. Wish they could make the signal a little stronger.

Terrain, yes. Down there at Pike Place Market, there's a 200 foot hill above you if you head East. Same reason why these Seattle downtown roads are steep going up. It's also the same reason why Seattle FMs are multipathed in Edmonds and Mukilteo - because of hills.

...and skyscrapers.

That's the reason Gold Mountain signals are so bad on the east side. Nothing gets through them....

Yep - KGY 96.9 was real weak in Bellevue. Could barely pick up KAFE, also at my old location near Downtown Bellevue. Even e-skip signals seemed to be reduced during openings - during a real good opening to CO/TX, at times I had hints of signals up to 105.7 out that way, but they lasted seconds before fading into nothing - even on the lower part of the band! Maybe skyscraper interference?

I tried to receive it when I worked in the Issaquah/Preston area and it was deaf. Good to about Castle Rock then it fades.

Now if only all of the Seattle TV broadcasters would move their equipment to a site like Tiger Mountain..

Why the heck would they spend the $$$ to do that? The vast majority of viewers don't use antennas any more.

And let's not derail another RADIO thread into an OT one.

Last Spring there were several days when I could hear KOMO-FM very clear on my car radio on the west side of Portland. Now that would not be possible with 97.9 KLVP which just came online.
