New Reynosa (McAllen) move-in?

I was in the RGV over the weekend, and spent a little time listening to 93.9 XHRAW. At last check, the station was "La Poderosa 93.9", playing Tejano, Conjunto, Norteno, and Corridos for the Miguel Aleman, TA/Roma, TX area, with production quality that wouldn't really impress.

Two things clued me in that things could have changed: the production quality was night-and-day over what it had been (the station wasn't even legal IDing before), and driving north out of Roma toward Laredo, the signal started dying out at a point that couldn't have been further than 10 miles from Miguel Aleman. On the station's Facebook page, there's a new station vehicle that proudly gives the station's location as Reynosa, and a few other pics on that page suggest that La Poderosa 93.9 and Xtrema 95.3 are now sister stations.

Fred Cantu or David Eduardo, any scoop on these changes? XHRAW's signal didn't even make it to La Joya before, so it's hard for me to believe that they could be doing remotes in Reynosa without a transmitter move.

Technical changes are regarded as trade secrets in Mexico. The public won't know about them until they are on the air. XHRAW is still listed in databases as belonging in Cd. Miguel Aleman. It is possible that XHRAW moved to Reynosa. But the station is a class A so it probably will only be able to serve Reynosa and not the larger South Texas/Northeast Mexico market that the larger FMs and TVs cover.

This station has setup a booster in Reynosa and both signals meet at around Sulivan City... This is the same technique that KRGX 95.1 did to get a signal into McAllen. You can pickup an RDS in McAllen, but not in the City of license?

I used to live in Rio Grande City; couldn't have been more than 10 miles from the transmitter in Miguel Aleman. Things may have changed, but as late as July, 93.9 was not running RDS. Whether it's legal or not, the booster situation makes sense -- perhaps 93.9 is too close to 94.5 KFRQ to do a full relocation to Reynosa. And 93.9 is, without question, the P1 station in Starr County and Miguel Aleman... KVLY aside, McAllen stations sound horrible in Roma, and pretty much everything with a Starr County COL is Spanish religion :(

Boosters in Mexico are not allowed. Both of these stations have setup boosters in Raynosa to have a McAllen signal. It's a pirate on a licensed frequency! If Valley stations don't reach Rio Grande City, how can a Rio Grande City station (KRGX Class A) reach down to Weslaco with a frequency lock? The license should be revoked.

The audio quality on KRGX 95.1 is horrible. Like they are feeding it at a very low bitrate from a laptop earphone jack or something.

Streaming to a booster site in Reynosa with a Barix... Low tech and very illegal!
