96.9: Better or worse?

Personally, I'm a big fan of the station. When it started out, it was ok, but it was kind of bizarre to hear Adele next to Naughty by Nature. Now, the playlist has been adjusted to include more hip hop (stuff I thought they would NEVER play), and of course, a couple of JAM'N vets were added. And as of last month, they're 8th in the market.

With all the changes, do you think the station is getting better or getting worse?

The only thing that will make them better, is put on "The Quiet Storm" (Superadio.com)
That show comes on (LIVE) Monday-Thursday nights 7pm-Midnight.
Other than that, they are okay.
I'm happy for this station.

They are a fun upbeat station no reason to put the Quiet storm on From 7pm-12am

I don't know if you know this, but as of lately, they've been adding a lot more more dance, and reggae/dancehall back into the mix. I'm not sure if they made the right choice. Going from old-school, to back to a part of their original set seems like a downgrade in my opinion. Even though there's still old-school rap & R&B to be found, there's not nearly as much as they did the past few weeks, in favor of balancing the genres. But then again, they could always switch the songs, so there's always that, and I still enjoy listening to this station, so I really don't have that many complaints.
Oh, and major props for them playing: (You probably know the artists.)
Still D.R.E.

Get this, I was listing to this station the other night, both "PYHWMECS", and "2OAMW", played right after each other, only to be killed by "Roar". (They need to work on their current tracks. "Roar" and "The Other Side" are the only ones out of place imo.)

I've noticed they added "Dat Sexy Body" by Sasha back in rotation lately. That and some other songs I don't hear outside of the East Coast (I live in Kansas, and we were never exposed to "Hold Yuh" by Gyptian).

Their currents, I agree, are out of place. I know they won't act too "urban", but something other than Katy Perry or Jason Derulo would be a good change.

And yes, I do know those artists! I'm surprised they play those songs as I thought in the beginning, they never would touch them due to the overwhelming Maroon 5 and Adele. (Remember them playing "Catch My Breath" a lot?)

It would be a nice addition. Heck, have R. Dub of Sunday Night Slow Jams do it. I've met him at a concert a month ago and he really is a nice guy and his show rocks.

Why can't they pick a side and stick to it? Ratings reasons?

I only mention those 2 tracks as being out of place because they are the only ones not influenced by any Urban genre whatsoever. You can have songs like "Royals", and "Locked Out Of Heaven" on the playlist, because even though their not Hip-hop, or R&B, they do take influence to those genres, and don't sound that much out of place because of it, which is what most of their currents follow. Also, I agree that having "CMB", and "Daylight" in heavy rotation for all those months before was a huge mistake on their part. They might as well have been playing Ed Sheeran.

They probably want to be versatile with their music selections. I just hope it doesn't risk them losing their audience. But as I said before, they can always change their songs to what they had before.

I think it's getting worse. It is stale. Too many songs that are repetitive. Lack of new songs. It's just boring. I was at fan at the beginning and thought they would be different.

To me 96.9 sounds better and better. They are constantly making changes and adding and removing songs, making it sound fresh. The mixshows are also going DEEPER! They have thrown on pretty deep hip hop tracks like Chubb Rock's "Treat You Right", The Pharcyde's "Runnin'" and even Young Black Teenagers' "Tap the Bottle" (I haven't heard that on any radio since 1993!!). That's what makes it interesting. As far as the dancehall/reggae, it's only sprinkled in here and there...and it fits. Gyptian's "Hold Yuh", Serani's "No Games" and pretty much any Sean Paul sound good on the station. The ratings are pretty solid and I'm glad the station has been successful so far, in the 10 months or so the station has been on the air it's become one of my favorites!
