Eaay 97.3 debut..or not...?

I was out driving around this morning and tuned into 97.3 to see what, if anything, was going on. Y'all was playing of course, but underneath all of it, other music could be heard. After a minute or so, I heard a liner for the "new Easy 97.3". Songs I heard beneath the usual Y'all broadcast included:

"Lady" Kenny Rogers
"I Can't Help Myself" The Four Tops "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" Elvin Bishop
"One More Try"
George Michael
"Eternal Flame" Bangles

A few minutes later, the two-station cacophony ended and "Easy 97.3" disappeared. Was it accidental that both programs were running simulatenously (to prepare for the pending format)...or...was it done intentionally to provide listeners a taate of what is to come? Or...could the "Easy" format be only a ruse and an entirely different format will wind up on 97.3?

I suppose anything is possible, even likely.

My first impression of "easy" was like real standards & singers type programming; it wasn't until someone else mention soft AC that it dawned on me what they might be planning. I was bugging out that Summit would ditch the surprise success of Y'all to a tiny translator for Sinatra and Streisand, lol. But I suppose soft AC makes a teeny bit more sense.

Still, I'd really like it if this was all just a huge ruse to put a little panic in Magic's pants.

Soft AC has made a comeback in many markets. WFEZ in Miami is a good example. The question is: will the ratings turn into revenue

The demo for this format skews older.

Two different versions of "Y'all" are now airing concurrently...the original on 97.3, and another on 102.1. Is the split of 97.3/102.1 about to occur?

Depends on what approach that Summit Media takes with the soft AC format, if that's indeed what WZNN winds up using. If the station opts for a more traditional soft AC sound, Streisand...and yes, maybe even Sinatra could be on the playlist (after all, they *did* play "Lady" by Kenny Rogers this morning, so it's entirely possible). Soft AC stations 25-30 years ago aired both Streisand and Sinatra, although Sinatra and other "adult standards" artists were more limited. Some of the traditional soft AC stations today still air Sinatra, one such station being KAJR "95.9, The Oasis" in Palm Springs.

old facebook page has a comment confirming they are moving tonight. also the "other station" in the background is "supposed" to be getting louder and louder as, and i quote, "it is pushing us oiut....over to 102.1"....which of course is a lower power translator no one who listens to 97.3 can actually get....so..... :)

Easy 97.3 now on the air. Calls are WEZZ-FM...a throwback to the former calls of 97.7 FM in Clanton, which is now "The Peach". First song: "Daniel" by Elton John.
