I Heard "Kokomo" on KOMO Radio Today!!!

First of all - the pictures of the tornados don't look so good. Washington, IL for example - mostly leveled by the big tornadoes, out of season that is!

Second of all - Can we QUIT with the Kokomo mentions? I listened to WZWZ 92.5 KOKOMO, Indiana the other night with Delilah via the tunein.com site. Big deal!

Beach Boys Kokomo has nothing to do with Indiana

Isn't this obvious? The BB song is about a resort in the carribean. Kokomo, IN is a town that was near tornardos yesterday, with some unfortunate injuries. KOMO was wrong to use it as a theme, but perhaps this is the new "Sinclair". Sad.

If it was some neophyte like Tom Leykis, then it would figure, but if KOMO used it as a lead-in, then terrestrial radio spectrum has a bright future being re-purposed as garage door openers, shame.

The responses so far prove this message board has moved into a parallel universe. Seriously.

Just the same jerks again. It's an open forum and that is what you get. Some good - some bad. Real radio people and fools that rave only about small LPFM's that block full powered stations, etc. Jerks are always jerks. "Flat running idiots". But - then again - isn't that what has become of most Broadcast Big Boys. Just "Flat running idiots". Nuff said.

Not sure who you were calling out here, but I am a radio profressional who likes to cover details. The use of the song "Kokomo" in reference to the tornadoes in the area was just wrong on a reasonably professional level. If that makes me an idiot, so be it. But someone needs to call attention to the inability of radio to connect to the average listener today. Playing that song as a lead in to a disaster is just simply bad radio. So who is the real idiot here?

Freak, I'm not sure I agree with you on this one, I really don't have a strong opinion on this either way. As the post above me mentioned, there is no mention of the song actually being played as a lead into the story of the disaster. The post above yours wasn't really hinting at programmers of these stations in a major way, but he's hinting at the issue this board has. It seemed for a while like every KMCQ thread has brought up the song, as well as some other threads that have nothing to do with the era that song came from. It may have even come up in the thread recently about KHTP being top CHR, but I don't remember for sure. In any event though, that's not the point. The point is it needs to stop being brought up every thread dealing with stations that play music, and it needs to stop now.

Freak,

Who said the song was played? Suit heard the town's name on Komo. Unwad those panties!!

OK my bad. With so many news/talk stations adding creative audio to their newscasts, I made an assumption that is what the OP was saying. Panties unwadded. (Not sure what that actually means)...:)

See my above post. I agree with you. The title of a new thread "I Heard Kokomo on KOMO Today" isnt funny IMO, nor relevant to anything.

Oh, I think it's pretty darn funny and IS relevant to this board (specifically, past discussions that provided a lot of "humour").

And unless you're a board mod you don't have any say into what stays or goes here.

Uh, OK, but where did I ever ask anything to be removed here? Never happened, so why are you being so offensive? Especially after I said "my bad". Thanks for your reminder about not having the power to remove posts. I kinda knew that..duh. But I am still free to offer my opinions. Why do you need to pile on?

Done here.

Apologies freak, that wasn't directed at you but to the others who said the Komomo references have to stop and stop now.

OK. I get it. The Kokomo word has become a symbol in this thread, and I understand. For some who don't pay as much attention as others, it can bite you in the butt. But thanks for your apology. I just want to contribute in a positive way. Seattle media is too important for stupid posts. I don't want to be a part of that.
