The LPFM applications are out

http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/f...&slat2=&NS=N&dlon2=&mlon2=&slon2=&EW=W&size=9

There are 9 applications in RI, and 6 are competing for 101.1. 5 are asking for a COL of Providence, and one is asking for Cranston.

Bryant University is asking for 95.1 in Smithfield.

Tony Jones is asking for 94.9 in West Warwick.

Chris DiPaola (I don't care what the application says) is asking for 92.9 in Westerly, which is going up against a request for 92.9 in New London, CT.

This entire LP-FM scenario mostly appears to be a joke. The only one I can think of that has any redeeming value locally is WXHQ-LP 105.9 in Newport. That one is line of sight for me and yet I have to dance around with an antenna to receive it.

Providence really needs a 101.1 LP? Bryant University has a nice 88.7 with HD 1 and HD2 that they lease to WGBH. Now they cry for a LP-FM! Maybe they can sell WJMF to RI Public Radio first and then go for the LP. 94.9 in West Warwick? Maybe if they could fill the local community issues (financial town meetings, Town council meetings etc. no longer carried by local 1450) but we know that won't happen! 92.9 in Westerly? Come on now!

Most of the LP-FMs just seem to be doing little more than wasting frequencies that could be better used as translators to assist "real" stations with signal issues.

Seems to do for FM about as much as X-band does for AM. Just my humble opinion.

If you can get the antenna placed on the West Street tower... Concentrate on the area within a perimeter from Crompton to Washington to Harris to Natick to Westcott and back to Crompton... Local politics? No problem! Take a ride to Canna Street in Natick and stop in for a chat with Angelo Padula. Definitely worth the trip! I suggest AC music - at least in daytime. You are looking for an older audience if you desire any real listenership. Mr. Alpin does a great deal for West Warwick and hopefully can help you focus on the issues important to that community.

God bless and good luck! Best wishes!
