Comcast seeks advice on possible Time Warner Cable bid

I'm not sure why this would matter. It's not like there is competition in the cable landscape anyways, you only get one choice, and depending on where you live, you get Comcast, Time Warner, Cablevision, Mediacom, or Charter.

I think this would be the equivalent of Verizon Wireless not being able to provide service to certain areas. In other words, Time Warner isn't a competitor (remember that Time Warner Cable doesn't own any major cable TV networks, since being split off from the mothership, only some local sports channels).

Great. One day after Time Warner assured as the analog channels weren't going away.

Let's hope this never amounts to anything. Time Warner has been a good company for me, except basic basic cable is quite expensive. In a newspaper column I read which was a follow-up to the one saying the analog channels weren't leaving, one of the people in my situation wants their rates to go down since the switch to digital for a few of them left her with fewer channels.

It would be foolhardy to believe analog channels will remain in any indefinite perpetuity with any cable company (no matter what they might tell you). Analog signals are a hog of bandwidth which in turn could hamper the availability for a new start up digital channel that could be put on a higher priced tier to earn more money, which is the goal for any business. The reason they haven't dropped analog is because by law they cannot, but the shelf life for requiring analog is quickly coming to a close. The end date is in the near distant future.
