The CW beats NBC Thursday lineup in key demo

via press release:

For the night (8-10pm) The CW outrated NBC in A18-49 (1.0/3), A18-34 (1.0/3), and W18-34 (1.3/4). It’s the first time ever that The CW has outrated NBC’s regular Thursday night lineup in A18-49 in head to head competition.

THE Vampire Diaries again outrated ABC, NBC, and Fox in A18-34 (1.3/5), and outrated both ABC and NBC in A18-49 (1.3/4). It was flat from week to week in both demos.

REIGN outrated NBC in the hour in A18-34 (0.6/2). REIGN was up 7% in total viewers week to week (1.8M), and was flat in A18-34 and A18-49 (0.7/2).

Big caveat though; WUPA in Atlanta carried the Falcons/Saints game last night in the ATL market, so it's likely those numbers are a little bit skewed for the CW. Once the final numbers come out, Reign will go below NBC, bad as that hour is, and TVD will probably slide a bit.

This is one of the reasons I can't stand TVBTN; they crow about things way too early, and of course they take network releases as gospel rather than do a bit of research before they come out with a story.

UPDATE, 2:05 PM: The CW’s The Vampire Diaries (1.3 in 18-49) held onto its fast national rating, and Reign (0.7) was down 0.2 due to an NFL pre-emption, but the network still averaged 1.0 in adults 18-49 for the night — beating NBC head-to-head from 8-10 PM on Thursday for the first time with regularly scheduled programming. NBC averaged 1.0 from 8-11 PM but 0.9 from 8-10 PM.

I'm beginning to think that the CW will be pulling what Fox pulled in the 90's. I wonder if the CW will begin adding sports and a news program (wonder how that's gonna work out with the network being owned by CBS and Time Warner).

probably no sports or news

News and sports isn't going to happen. Not in their business model. The CW exists to create syndication properties for Warner Bros. and CBS. Losses at the network level are offset by the revenue the parent companies gain from the shows they produce for the joint venture.
