RAIN in Phoenix!

I believe that we have collectively lost our minds here in Phoenix. 3TV was in full storm mode last night and tonight. I was waiting for them to break into Dr. Oz to tell us that the first raindrops had been sighted. The other stations weren't far behind with team coverage of the storm.

Well, it rained, some roofs leaked, a cactus fell over, and the usual washes flooded (because that's what they do). Traffic cams show wet freeways...amazing since it's RAINING outside.

The funniest thing was Javier Soto standing by a large puddle in the street and having trucks come by and splash water all over him. WOW, just wow!

Oh yes, and there was snow in the Flagstaff area and, rest assured, ADOT is out there salting and sanding all day and night.

To top it all off, since it is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, Lin Sue reported that JFK and his brother Joe spent a summer at a ranch in Benson "toughening up" (after all they were city boys, you know) in 1938. I guess that capped off an entirely surreal day here in the desert.

What will the weekend am newscasts bring? I guess I will tune in to see.

AHEM......TWO saguaro cactus's actually fell over. The one that was not reported was in the median of McClintock Road halfway between Warner and Ray in Chandler. Don't ask how I know......

Breaking news...I would like to make a correction...TWO cacti fell over (rather than the one I earlier reported). Coming up next, there was a short period of sun today. Let's check in with meteorologist Barbie Dahl for the latest forecast.

"We have team coverage of this Weather Alert"

I noticed that both 3TV and ABC15 used multiple staff members to cover the event.

Earlier on GMAZ April covered most of the forecast but Kim handled some of the details using the doppler to show where it was raining right now. Kim returned later on GEAZ to do much of the same with Royal handing the main forecast.

Over at 15, while the Chief Meteorologist handled the current weather and forecast, Laura was there to show all the weather photos sent in by the viewers. 15's other meteorologist was out earlier in the day standing by a Scottsdale roadway over the Indian Bend Wash watching the water as it flowed across the street.
