Delta launches AAA station in Lafayette

On 106.3. They are calling it "Radio Lafayette" Liking what I hear so far. http://1063radiolafayette.com/

www.radio-locator.com doesn't have any listing for a 106.3 in Lafayette LA. And there is a 106.1 about 50 miles to the west in Orange TX. This has got to be just a translator. So what is the originating station?

Radio-Locator doesn't list is because it was off-air until this week. I believe it had storm-related transmitter problems. The station's calls are KYMK, at least for now, and it's licensed to Maurice.

This is kind of a strange one. An STA application for the FM was filed to remain silent since it lost its "program service," stating that it had been simulcasting KVOL. A application check for KVOL showed an STA request to remain silent a few months ago because the transmitter was undergoing repairs. Is KVOL back on the air, or is that a moot point in view of the FM going AAA?

Can someone find out if KYMK is operating with their licensed power of 2.6kW or under the STA granted back in June for 700 watts?

Licensed coverage: https://maps.google.com/?q=http://t...eq=106.3&contour=60&city=MAURICE&state=LA.kml

Interestingly the STA facility is located in the city of Lafayette, resulting in some pretty good coverage with less than a third of the "licensed" power.

Not sure if KVOL is back on-the-air or not. I don't live in Louisiana and can't pick it up. I only know about this from a friend of mine from there who now lives in Texas. I'll ask him and see if he can find out anything because I assume he was tipped off by a friend still in town. Unless KVOL and KYMK are simulcasting AAA, which I doubt, whether or not it's on-the-air would be a moot point.

I'll see what my friend knows, if anything.

Previous licensee Pittman was evicted from the property KYMK's tower sits on out in a cane field. As best I can tell they are on the "temporary" site cause the signal is hit or miss in Lafayette and fades worse heading west of town when it should actually increase if they were on their licensed site. That said I'm sure Delta is trying to make amends with the owner of the field the KYMK tower sits on. As of a few months ago when I went for a look, the tower was still up as was the 3 bay antenna.

My friend tells me he believes KYMK is still operating from the IberiaBank Tower, which would be the auxiliary site.

I also asked about KVOL. He said he wasn't sure if it was on-air or not, but he knows the format of the station has been picked for whenever it does sign on.

I attended to the Cajuns' homecoming festivities on the weekend of November 2nd and KVOL was playing R&B mixed with Zydeco, ID'ing as Z-105.9.

106.3 was simulcasting KVOL AM. I'm not sure if the FM was ever off-air. It was the AM that had issues. It supposedly will return with a new format.

KVOL 1330, BTW, was still off-air as of early yesterday morning. My friend checked out the signal just a couple of miles from the transmitter site, and he couldn't get it.
