Jeff Katz to WRVA Richmond (was at 1200 etc)

Jeff Katz going to WRVA Richmond VA as new 3-6 pm host, congrats (their Leland Conway goes to WHAS Louisville). Jeff had stints at RKO incl Howie fill ins and had been on Rush Radio aka Talk 1200 for awhile.

He went from morning show at BHR to "commentary" and I didn't know if that was BHR's decision, or he had this in the pipeline...he also writes for the paper and that may continue. Maybe would do show from Cabot Rd Medford CC studios until he moves down there (WRVA is CC also) or get down there right away and live in motels for awhile till he and the family get settled.

Well... someone from my own station said to me on Facebook, "Going from the #10 market to the #55 can't be a good thing". I replied hey it's a job...and he may have other things like fill ins (Todd Schnitt, etc) and newspaper columns too.

Is Richmond a Major Market?

OK it has a Nielsen ranking of 55, 12+ population of over 1 million. Much of WRVA's .5 mv/M coverage hits the area south of DC. That is a populated area, Washington is the #7 market IIRC

Baltimore is market 21, still close enough to DC that WBAL's .5mv/m predicted signal covers the whole area, almost to Richmond. Baltimore and Washington are 35 miles apart

IMHO there is overlapping in the market maps, and if your market covers a million plus people, that is major market.
