Night DXing in New Hampshire

I was in New Hampshire a couple of weeks for a fall vacation. I used my car radio, engine off, for some nighttime DXing. East Wakefield is 100 miles north of Boston, on the border of Maine. It sits between the Portland ME, Portsmouth NH and Manchester NH markets but it's far enough from each of those cities that at night I don't get any local AM stations reliably. It is also quite rural, so there's minimal man-made interference. Here's what I heard...

530 CIAO Brampton-Toronto Italian...They only run 250 watts but as the only radio station on 530 in North America, other than some low power airport and highway stations, they come in reliably.
540 I heard a station playing Spanish ballads but it was faint.
550 nothing
560 Oldies (Cowsills, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Boy from New York City) No idea what this was. WGAN Portland and WHYN Springfield MA are both Talk stations, so this wasn't either of those. WGAN comes in by day.
570 WMCA NYC...Religion...with what I assume was WSYR Syracuse Talk underneath.
580 WTAG Worcester MA...Talk (Coast to Coast)
590 Sports...I suppose this is The Fan CJCL Toronto although with 50,000 watts on a regional frequency, they should be nulled away from the U.S. By day, it's WEZE Boston Religion with WROW Albany Oldies/Standards underneath.
600 WICC Bridgeport Talk (Red Eye Radio)...Fairly clear for a 1000 watt station more than 200 miles away.
610 Sports...I assume this was WIP Philadelphia.
620 WSNR Jersey City. Late nights they have a national Gospel show. Days are 3000 watts but at night they're 7600 watts.
630 WPRO Providence Talk (Red Eye Radio)...Very clear. You can even catch them in the daytime sometimes, especially since 630 Sherbrooke Quebec is off the air now.
640 CFMJ Toronto Talk (Coast) I may have picked up as many as 12 Toronto area stations, 425 miles away...530, 590, 640, 740, 860, 900, 1010, 1050, 1540, 1580, 1610, 1650. By day, NPR affiliate WNNZ Westfield MA comes in.
650 WSM Nashville Classic Country
660 WFAN New York Sports. They even come in faintly in the daytime, 300+ miles away.
670 WSCR Chicago Sports. Tropical music could be heard faintly under, maybe Cuba?
680 WRKO Boston Talk. (Coast)
690 CKGM Montreal Sports. They were running ESPN. I guess TSN doesn't have its own overnight programming.
700 WLW Cincinnati
710 WOR New York Talk. (Coast)
720 WGN Chicago Talk. (Local Talk show)
730 CKAC Montreal "Radio Circulation" Can you imagine reporting Montreal traffic in French around the clock? Yet someone was doing it, all night long.
740 CKZM Toronto Standards.
750 Talk but fuzzy. I suppose this was WSB Atlanta but hardly audible.
760 WJR Detroit Talk (Red Eye)
770 WABC NYC Talk (Red Eye) Late Friday night, WABC ran an infomercial instead of Red Eye. Wow. A Cumulus station pre-empts its own show for an infomercial.
780 WBBM Chicago All-News
790 Red Eye Radio but not very clear. Is this WPRV Providence? WPRV and WPRO both running Red Eye? There was faint ticking under. I suppose that was Radio Reloj from Cuba, but it was so faint I couldn't hear voices, just ticking.
800 CKLW Windsor (Coast)
810 WGY Schenectady (Coast)
820 nothing
830 WCRN Worcester MA (Red Eye)
840 WHAS Louisville (Coast)
850 WEEI Boston ESPN but quite faint.
860 CJBC Toronto Radio-Canada
870 nothing
880 WCBS New York All-News. Very strong.
890 WLS Chicago (Red Eye)
900 CHML Hamilton (Coast)
910 nothing
920 WHJJ Providence (Coast) plus a Classic Country station fighting it. Not sure who that is. I thought maybe WOKY Milwaukee but they've switched to Sports.
930 WBEN Buffalo (Coast) fighting with WPKX Rochester NH (Fox Sports). You'd think WPKX would be stronger, running 5000 watts only 20 miles away.
940 nothing. Montreal should be here but they're off the air.
950 Religion fighting with Indian. Maybe the Religious station is WROL Boston but they're only 90 watts at night. Maybe WKDN Philadelphia? No idea who does Indian programming on 950.
960 Oldies. I thought I heard an ID for WAYL, although I didn't find those call letters, other than an FM station in Florida.
970 nothing
980 Fox Sports. I assume it's WOFX Troy NY.
990 WDCX Rochester Religion. Fairly clear for only 2500 watts from 350 miles away.
1000 WMVP Chicago ESPN Sports. Faint.
1010 WINS New York All-News fighting with CFRB Toronto Talk
1020 KDKA Pittsburgh (Overnight America). Faint.
1030 WBZ Boston...Local Talk but not as strong as you'd expect, with what sounded like religious music under. They're one of the strongest AM stations in the daytime.
1040 French Canadian Country music. I guess it's CJMS St.-Constant, near Montreal.
1050 WEPN New York ESPN Deportes, fighting with CHUM Toronto.
1060 KYW Philadephia All-News. I wonder how they hit New Hampshire when they're nulled away from the Northeast to avoid interfering with WEPN. But they're audible most nights, including the tele-type machine SFX.
1070 nothing. CBA Moncton switched to FM.
1080 WTIC Hartford (Coast - interesting that a CBS station carries Coast instead of Overnight America)
1090 WBAL Baltimore (Overnight America)
1100 WTAM Cleveland (Coast)
1110 WBT Charlotte (Coast)
1120 Fuzzy but some Talk (maybe KMOX?) and some Tropical (maybe Cuba?) could be heard.
1130 WBBR New York Business
1140 nothing
1150 nothing
1160 Talk show but not Coast or Red Eye. The host is named Alan something. He's conservative but he was talking with a female guest representing Democrats. I checked WYLL Chicago's website but they only have Religion shows all night. So who's doing Talk on 1160? If it was KSL Salt Lake, it was incredibly strong for 1000 miles away. There was also some ESPN breaking in one night.
1170 WWVA Wheeling Talk (Coast)
1180 WHAM Rochester Talk (Coast) with faint Tropical music underneath. Could that be Radio Marti or a Cuban trying to override Marti?
1190 WLIB NYC Gospel
1200 Faint Sports... maybe CFGO Ottawa? Surprised I didn't hear 50 kw WXKS Newton-Boston Business News, which comes in by day.
1210 WPHT Philadelphia Talk (Coast - another CBS station that doesn't carry its own Overnight America.)
1220 WHKW Cleveland Religion

--then I skip the regional channels--

1500 WFED Washington Federal News
1510 WLAC Nashville Talk (Coast)
1520 WWKB Buffalo Sports (Sorry to see Progressive Talk gone.)
1530 Religious talk with a female host. Does WCKY Cinncinati, a 50 kw ESPN affiliate, sell time overnight?
1540 Red Eye, with a commercial giving Central Time. Could that be KXEL Waterloo? Or maybe WDCD Albany just happened to be carrying a network spot with the mention of central time in it? Underneath someone was teaching Manderin. I suppose that's CHIN Toronto.
1550 French Talk. Apparently CBEF Windsor has taken over the frequency vacated by CBE's move to FM.
1560 WQEW New York Radio Disney
1570 French Music. I guess this is 10 kw CFAV Montreal.
1580 Oldies. I guess this is 10 kw CKOO Oshawa Ont.

--then in the X band--

1610 Tropical. This may be CHHA Toronto.
1650 A financial infomercial fighting with Indian programming. CINA Missasauga, near Toronto, does Indian programming but they only run 600 watts at night.
1660 Asian. I suppose this is WWRU Jersey City Korean, only 1000 watts at night.
1680 Regional Mexican.
1700 Faint sports talk. Is this KBGG Des Moines? They're only 1000 watts at night but there's no 1700 I know of doing Sports in the East.

KBGG is the usual on 1700 here in Ohio at night. Given that KVNS has been heard in Scotland with less power (800 watts at night I believe), I'd have no trouble believing Des Moines makes it up into New England.
Might you be in WBZ's cancellation zone? That, or you're not in front of that potent western lobe?

1160 might be Alan Colmes, but I have no idea who runs him. No one in the Northeast on 1160 from what I see in the lists.

The 960 "WAYL" is actually WHYL in Carlisle PA. It's been stuck on full 5 kW day power for a while, supposedly.

(For "soundalikes" like this, one of the best ways to look them up is http://topazdesigns.com/ambc, which actually allows you to search for "callsign that sounds like...")

560 is CFOS Owen Sound Ontario. A very reliable signal. The country station on 920 was probably CKNX Wingham Ontario. They really get out to the east. Your guesses for 1040 and 1570 are right. 1540 would have definitely been KXEL. WDCD is off by 10 pm and is religious, and not up to the power they once were.

Regional Mexican on 1680 is likely WTTM in New Jersey. There's also WCTN in MD on 950 listed as Ethnic, maybe they have Indian programs.

1180 has a pretty strong Cuban on it here I am that interferes with WHAM.
1540 is probably KXEL.
I get KVNS on 1700 pretty commonly especially this time of year.

530 CIAO Brampton-Toronto Italian...They only run 250 watts but as the only radio station on 530 in North America, other than some low power airport and highway stations, they come in reliably.

Gregg, if you listen to 530 long enough or check it out on different nights, you should be able to hear Radio Enciclopedia from Cuba.

One night when I was in New Jersey recently, they came in as strong as I always hear them here in Tampa.

It's so easy to identify because they play elevator music and have a woman announcer.

I haven't listened to WCKY at night for ages (or during the day for that matter), but at one time they run religious programs late at night.

1660 Asian. I suppose this is WWRU Jersey City Korean, only 1000 watts at night.

WWRU is one of those oddball X-banders that runs 10,000 watts at night with a slightly different pattern from the daytime one. Like two others in California (Vallejo with 10kW on 1640 and Moreno Valley with 9kW on 1670) , it's an exception that was allowed because of their location near the coastline.

Down here just outside Boston, CFOS has been making strong regular appearances - totally destroying WGAN
