A day in the life of a lamptimer

Now we know that "YIKES" translates to "lend me your comb." But is that Urdu or Hindi? I've asked my Rosetta Stone but it continues to display "Ask again later." Just queried it again and it gave that answer 14 times in a row. Help......

Check your Magic Eight Ball....answer is "maybe".

What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is Mother Hubbard going to do to replace the revenue Radio Sri brought to Lumberyard 14~Forty? If the price is right, Nurse Jeff and I'll buy an hour for "Axe The Doctor" - giving listeners valueless advise from two guys way over their fez covered heads!

Word has it that Geraldo "Shirtless Selfie" Rivera has some time on his hands after being dumped from the KABC/L.A. lineup so he could "focus on his WABC/NYC show," thus (hopefully) reversing the startling decline in KABC's ratings. Perhaps he could barter his way to the Valley of the Sun for enlightening opinions with a get-off-my-lawn attitude!* All on 14~Forty in the time slot formerly known as Radio Sri! I'm dreaming now, but we can hope!

* - studio audience sfx not included in barter agreement; get your own!

BTW Doc, are you and the nurse consulting this station ---> http://bit.ly/IhUP9H

(I know, right? I'm such a sleuth...but your mistake was picking those call letters! Now the cat's out of the bag.)

Anyway, kudos for a job well done! I haven't heard so much England Dan and John Ford Coley since I had my latest root canal. And I'm loving the "cuddliest nighttime mix of easy favorites." I always knew you guys were too hip for the room...and now I know which room that is.

But I just gotta know - what's it's like working for Cox (sic)?

I realize that you were reaching for a joke there... but with nearly 10 years at Cox Radio/Cox Media Group I say this without hesitation: if you get the opportunity to work for one of their stations, take it. They get it.

You'll know our room by the sign on the door: MEN

We also have little to do with this station that plays songs by artists no longer vertical: http://easy1013.com

Nice pick! Golly, that signal actually covers the wide open spaces where I was born!!! Had that station existed when I lurked in those bad lands, the format would have been called Top 40. It's a wonder *I* am still vertical, come to think of it.

You've triggered some intense nostalgia for those wind blown plains just to the right of the Rockies. And I am missin' me some Karen and Richard Carpenter somethin' fierce. Good thing it's the holiday season, when it's like they never left: http://bit.ly/YAAGSg Please someone tell me the Goldminers have exhumed this one for the 14~Forty holiday playlist.

"Logs on the fire fill me with desire..." <sigh>

Those days, like the music played on Lumberyard 14~Forty, are long gone. Today desire is filled with thoughts of Miley Cyrus twerking. Uggh...talk about dousing that fire with cold water. Yuck!!

Now here's something from the North Pole pad of Edd Byrnes recently exhumed by the goldminers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQwHuV9ouM0

You are eloquent in expressing your anguish at my feeble attempt at humor. No insult was intended toward a fine radio group. But I can understand how one could feel an insult to one's intelligence after reading my remark. Sorry about that.

I hope it's the last time, but for better or worse it's kinda the way I'm wired, and I'll likely go some place like that again...

A sidebar question: Is "Yuck!!" present perfect tense of "YIKES!"? I just want to be able to diagram that sentence with confidence, should Mrs. Krabopple call on me to do so after the holiday break.

He did well enough to reach #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 with this one: http://youtu.be/z1q6vIJezmM

Produced by Snuff Garrett, who also produced a number of wornout oldies by Gary Lewis & The Playboys featured daily on Lumberyard 14~Forty. Garrett left Tinsel Town in the 90's to retire at a ranch in Sonoita. hmmmm...wonder if that nighttime 52 watt skywave makes it down there?

We spent a year in Lubbock, Tx before coming to AZ and Garrett is a legend there. He was a D.J. as well as a producer. If the Goldmine DOES reach him, he's responsible for a nicely sliced litte portion of the playlist.

Nurse Jeff and I also spent a year in Lubbock one day. As Mac Davis said, sure looked better in the rearview mirror. But hey, not everyone is fortunate enough to live and play in Buckeye AZ...where the stuccoed walls & tiled roofs line I-10 as far as the eye can see!

Back to the topic: when is Mother Hubbard going to do something about Lumberyard 14~Forty's lame web page? http://kazg1440.com You'd think by now there'd be a picture of the Nautel instead of that nasty Gates xmttr...or at least one of catfish (lower case "c")!

No offense taken. But they're hiring, and they run good stations. So if you're looking for a gig, check them out.

It's probably in the priority pipeline for Mother Hubbard, who's making her list and checking it twice. The KAZG website is pretty far down the list after things like decisions if/when/where to co-locate their money-minting stations, whom to pink slip just in time for the holidays, and what to do about the increasingly violent "Save Radio Sri" protests.

I did take the opportunity to sign up for the station newsletter, however. It's easy - just enter the email address you check least frequently in the handy box and click "submit." But you should know that after I did so, I began receiving a lot more emails offering me deep discounts on language lessons, gold-buying advice, and near-prescription-quality BonerPills™ almost perfectly imprinted with the name "Fpizer."

"Lumberyard 14~Forty...if listening lasts more than four hours, call your physician pronto!"

Too bad Mom missed the opportunity to purchase what remained of the old Roundup Drive In. The Paddock warehouse will be replaced with 144 townhouses in a complex to be called "Paddock Place". There's been no discussion so far about what to do with all the high energy RF coming off the KAZG rusting tower just west of the newly planned upscale community. Nor any discussion about what to do with the tacky trailer park on the north side of Thomas Rd where "Save Radio Sri" protestors and a Gremlin owner have been assembling.

A simple solution would be to hit the unsubscribe link and get off the list in no less than six months time.

And after all these years we thought the Goldminers were just happy to see us. YIKES!!

I'll bet you a rare Bernie Wise FM Neutralization Capacitor that you missed the luscious Nautel in the latest Goldmine pix. In fact, it replaced the old Bernie-designed CCA AM-5000D over there on the left. It's but a flyspeck compared to the voluminous, beige, 1966-era tube beastie, so no wonder.

Lubbock is for lovers. *sigh*

Guess we owe you that thingymabob. Here's the Nautel, buried on pg 12 of xmttr pictures http://kazg1440.com/galleries/kazg-transmitter-site/16666 It's a beauty, even with the price tag label still on it! (looks like catfish went overboard on the expandable foam application)

I'll have Nurse Jeff check the Tuff Shed behind the Media Hut and see if he can locate the Bernie Wise P.O.S among all the undocumented students living in it. If not, then would you consider in trade a Gates Level Devil once wired to the Gremlin's radio to compensate for road noise? (voltage inverter not included)
