January 2014 PPM's for WABC & WOR

With all the recent changes both TALK stations went through it will be interesting to see the first monthly ratings reflecting the reinvented WOR, their new lineup Rush, Hannity, and their local news focus with more traffic and weather around the hour. I predict both stations to gain a lot both in share and cume with WABC being sky high on top Midday's and PM drive. Curtis & Kuby will be the victor, Rush is still big big but no way winning against this popular locally focused show on the mightier signal 770.
Savage will literally crush Sean. Just my prediction... What is yours?

One day will tell...

I agree with your prediction of Curtis and Kuby beating Rush, although I'm not so sure Savage will beat Hannity, even though Hannity . Why? Because he just sounds awful since he left T.R.N. ...the magic is either gone or missing in action. Maybe he's trying too hard but his anger seems forced and it' jut not very entertaining. As I'm sure is the case with many listeners, I disagree with most of his opinions but as a radio fan his show was always one of my favorites because he did compelling radio. Now, he just sounds like a grumpy old man. It's not funny, it's not fun. Savage's constant doom and gloom rants are a real dial-changer.

+1 for your prediction.

Curtis & Kuby is the best talk show in NYC at the moment hands down. I still find Savage entertaining but the local 5-6 pm show is deadly dull, as is Mark Levin.

However -- I've always questioned the ratings with respect to these two stations. For years it's been roughly 2:1 in favor of WABC, regardless of programming changes on both stations that have sometimes been substantial.

I also believe listeners are creatures of habit and will often stay with the station they're used to rather than follow programming. That bodes well for WABC this book. WOR made sure former listeners fled the station on the first morning in January.

If the 2:1 WABC:WOR ratio remains I'll chalk it up to a significant population of former WOR listeners suffering cardiac arrest on the morning of January 1 before being able to change the station ... and robust PPM batteries that kept on registering!

Sorry, but I think change does not immediately pay off for Talk Radio, a format targeting older listeners. WOR is now without its long-time morning show featuring someone named John Gambling. Today's Talk Radio listeners heard his father tell them whether they had a snow day off from school. Now the morning show is completely revamped and aiming much, much younger than the typical WOR listener.

And WABC is now without longtime afternoon hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Will listeners who expect Rush at noon be OK with Curtis & Kuby? Will afternoon listeners take to Savage Nation at 3pm and a new show hosted by Pat Kiernan at 5pm, instead of Hannity? Maybe this will all shake out eventually but I don't think the January ratings will be good for either station. They'll either stay where they are or even drop a bit.

"Jill Vitale, also known as Flipper if you've ever listened to the Sean Hannity show, is returning to WABC after a 2 1/2 year hiatus. She'll be the Executive Producer for the Curtis & Kuby show. Vitale told Radio Ink, "I cannot wait to work with them again. We are going to have so much fun while keeping the tri-state area informed. It's all about live and local, baby." Vitale got her start in talk radio screening calls for Sliwa and Kuby at WABC back in 1998. She was a producer with Hannity from 2000-2005 then John Gambling 2005-2009. She's spent the past two-and-a-half years with her three kids."

Oooops Gregg is right, WABC is down 0.1, from Holiday's 2.5 to 2.4 and Cume down to around 700,000 from 813,000.
WOR gained 0.3, from Holiday's 1.4 to 1.7, Cume gain from 529,000 to 568,000.

From the article:
In January, in the coveted 25-to-54 year-old demographic, Savage beat and in some cases doubled Hannity's average quarter-hour (AQH) audience, according to new Nielsen numbers provided by an industry insider.
For once it's nice to see the better show win.

The changes in ratings on either station are going to be Minimal at best. However,Revenue is more important then ratings.

when does the contract end for Imus at WABC? & Fox TV ? Late 2015 ?
