Clear Channel or Cumulus for Active Rock

I'm trying to determine which big "C" puts out the best active rock stations; Cumulus or Clear Channel. I know you are choosing between the less of the two evils but I'm just curious as radio seems to be going in the way of Cumulus and Clear Channel (I figure in 20 years, that will be all that exist).

Cumulus has 94.3 the Dam in Florence, SC. The Arbitron ratings are dropping like a rock and this is the only rock station other than one which changed from "classic rock" to "classic hits" so it surprises me that it's still there. All I can really say is it's everything an active rock station should be. I've seen complaints about other stations that played Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith. I don't think this one does. The only really old stuff is metal like Motley Crue and Guns 'n Roses. There is alternative music from the 90s. Their main purpose in life seems to be as loud as possible.

vchimpanzee - When I lived in Myrtle, it was safe to say that The Dam was, probably, the most annoying station whose signal could reach the Grand Strand. Silly imaging, bad music flow - just a trainwreck.

You'll be glad to know they gave it up. The Arbitron ratings were dropping like a rock.

Ironically, I'm disappointed about this, as this station was something I looked forward to hearing for several years. Something just wasn't right after WKZQ changed. Now since a translator blocks WEZV until Marion, I once again have nothing worth hearing around Bennettsville.

Wait, hold on for a second: I know for a fact that KZQ was alternative in the early 2ks (around 2001). I know they are alternative now as well (yes I'm aware they switched frequencies between 101.7 and 96.1). When exactly was WKZQ an active rock station? They do lean harder alternative but I don't remember them ever being Active.

Well, they were a lot harder rocking at one time. Much like The Dam, at least at night. I'm pretty sure they were rocking hard as I drove through the Pee Dee area around midday.

I can't prove anything but I do know there was a time when WKZQ rocked harder than it does now. When the change happened, they started describing the music as "new rock and classic alternative". Before that I know Ozzy Osbourne was among the classic artists, and he wouldn't be considered "alternative". I don't think there was as much classic metal as on The Dam.
