CBS needs to drop talk on 1210 WPHT

The way the format is set up is horrible and the ratings show it. All they care about is making money with the paid programming on weekends and not the talk format. Even CBS radio in Philly don't care about WPHT. They should change to a format that they can make money 24/7 and care more about the programming on the station, like sports or all news. I personally hope this happens before the start of the 2014 Phillies regular season. I think the Phillies would like CBS to drop talk for sports programming on 1210. I don't think they like right wing talk.

I'd ask you how you know this, but I know you just made it up. YOU don't like right wing talk, so you just assume no one else does.

Let me tell you something. The Phillies DO NOT CARE WHAT IS ON THE STATION THE REST OF THE DAY. They just want people to listen when they are on.

Seriously, how old are you? You're throwing a tantrum worse than my kid did when she was 3 years old.

Why would they change the format of WPHT instead of moving the Phillies to WIP? Philly doesn't need another sports talker. There are entirely too many of them already.

He wants them to flip to sports. Which would compete with the sports format they already have on THEIR OTHER TWO SPORTS STATIONS.
CBS Having a 3rd sports station, would be a back up for WIP-AM/FM. I don't see it as competing with each other.

Maybe. But they're not in business to be relevant. They're in business to make money. And 1210 makes money. Certainly more than they would airing yet another sports format, or oldies or some other niche format.

I don't like the way they are doing it, with all of these brokered shows running in their entirety, causing the regular shows to be skipped or start late on weekends after games. I get what you are saying, but I just don't like the station overall.

I don't think any of us actually LIKE the station. It's terrible. But again, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.

I don't live in Philadelphia. I am not sufficiently curious about this issue to do any work researching the answer myself, but I am curious enough to ask this question of those who apparently are located in Philly. What other news/talk stations are there in Philly competing with WPHT? Is it the best in town because it is the only one in town?

Of course not. As I've pointed out in this thread, there is WHYY-FM, an NPR station, that is news/talk 24/7.

Plus there are several other talkers in the city as well as surrounding areas, as you can see here:

This thread, and many others like it, is from one disgruntled listener who wants the station to suit his personal taste.

Like I said, I'm not motivated enough to look it up. However, saying that an NPR station is "news/talk" is like saying that all radio stations that play any sort of music are the same format, because they all play music. NPR is very, very different from a "news/talk" station. News/talk is predominated by phone-in, audience participation shows. NPR as few, if any, audience participation talk shows.

The thread is about talk stations. You choose to define the format by what's currently popular. The OP doesn't like the approach taken by a particular traditional AM news/talk station, and is seeking an alternative. That's what WHYY is.

But I also offered several other alternatives at the link provided. If you go there, you'll see at least 3 other stations that aren't NPR.
