Does anyone else read these particular RadioDiscussions boards anymore? Seems awfully quiet...

Shutting them down for a couple of months will have that effect...

Anonymouse, I've been wondering the same thing. I don't know if the answer is like the Unregistered Guest suggested...that the cause is from the temporary shut down..or what. I thought members would be so glad that the boards are back that they would post just to keep them going again and post about anything that happened while the boards were down. I agree with you that it has been way too quiet here. I guess having (at least) three boards to choose from doesn't help the situation.

I'll throw some meat to the wolves: Doesn't anyone find it strange that Travis Moon would walk away from a long and successful career with Clear Channel to take a gig in non-profit world?

It's because everyone moved to the RadioInsight boards.
Those have taken the place of this one. For all the action go there, and to Radio-Talk which is a smaller circle of people but still rather up-to-date. I'm sorry RadioDiscussions, but you did this to yourselves. I hate to say it but that closure and re-opening wasn't smart, in my opinion.

Thanks for the update! I just signed up for Radio Insight. This board didn't have to go on a hiatus. I am a scientific computer programmer and would have taken it over and/or paid for it. No one responded to my emails. It's a shame because this was at one time the place to go. It's good someone else took over in Radio Insights. The problem with this board is that it's been up and down quite a lot over its history.

There have been 93 views to this thread which is about the same number of views that a typical thread received before the shut down. If I remember correctly, threads that I read had about 80 to 125 views after a day or two. Either there are less people checking the thread more often or the same number of people are still here and not participating.

I think I have been here since about 2002 or 2003 (I'm not sure, I'll try to find my first post if that is still possible) so I sort of agree with you that there have been some bumps along the road for this discussion board. It survived the other bumps but maybe the problem this time was the two bumps pretty close together. The first one was the "upgrade" (I'll put that in quotes) which required many members to re-register. Some probably refused because they did not want to go through the trouble or had problems and could not get back in. The other bump was the temporary shut down. I did not research when these two happened but I think it was within a year of each other, maybe two at the most. These two bumps which were "relatively" close together considering how long the board has been here might be the reason members are staying away or not participating. Then again, it could be that I don't know what I am talking about and there could be other reasons such as some of the topics are too boring for others to respond to a post, have no opinion on the topic, or have no information to add to the topic.

The views are up to 139 so people are reading but not posting. And, it's not just here that it is happening. You (Anoymouse) have the last post on one of the other sites and it is 3 hours short of being 2 days old without anyone responding or starting a new one. You ((Anoymouse) also have the last post on the other site which is over 3 days old. So, it is pretty quiet everywhere. Maybe this is how radio ends. Well, maybe not the end of radio but the end of talking about radio...

This board doesn't look like it will recover, but maybe. Radioinsight has lost some of its membership to radiotalk so now there are 3 boards vying for the members that this one originally had. This is what I've found from all 3. Radioinsight has a lot of activity in its New England and east coast boards, the others are quiet. Radiotalk has daily activity in the gulf south states, especially Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. PurpledevIl, who was a longtime member here, has basically taken over the reigns there and really done some work filling them up with subject matter. It has become the place to go to keep up with radio in the south. Everywhere else is pretty dead. Here, the DX forum is still pretty active. If you have no interest in these areas, it looks like your out of luck. This is the result of splitting all the membership that was here into 3 separate forums.
None of them are as successful as this one was originally. If someone could just figure out a way to get all the boards back under one banner and extend olive branches, maybe things could go back to normal. Until then, we users are the ones that continue to suffer.

I read a post (I think it was in the past three months) by one of the owners of one of the three boards that you mentioned in your post. (I would tell you who it was from but I really don't remember so I would only be guessing if I mentioned a name here.) That owner was replying to a post about the animosity (hate?) between the owners of the different radio boards. That owner said that currently there is no animosity and their last communication was civil. This is not an exact quote but it is how I remember the post.

I'm here and there, but after they shut this one down I'm not on to much, I don't want to get use to something again and then they shut it right down with no warning.

With the new owner/management, I doubt it will go down again...the new owners of Radio-Info only wanted the web site and not the discussions forums...thus this got spun off and the owners had no idea how to run it...so crash...they gave up...the new management seems to be very responsive and friendly...so that will help....As to Radio-Talk, someone said purpledevil was doing all the southern postings over there...and that is true....he reposted my post from here about the 97.1 Beaumont translator..but I saw last night Radio-Talk CRASHED and are trying to rebuild their servers, etc...everyone has had to re register and all messages are not there...at least HERE, the old messages still exists...I dont like the format at Radio-Insight...makes my eyes hurt....too many side columns (Radio-Talk ha the same issue)...I MISS the original RI format here way back when....to me, made following the threads easier...Anyway I am glad to see these boards back...now if the people would just POST and come back...(I did post a msg on Radio-Talk that this site was up and running and then they crashed..thought I may have been kicked off because of that!! ;) CW forever

LOL CW don't worry the guy at Radio-Talk seems pretty dedicated, I'm sure he'll do what he can to get it back.
And as for RadioInsight I'm sure you can tell them what's wrong with their layout, they will probably listen.
