Q105.3 Savannah Getting Harder

I actually don't live in Savannah, but my parents do, and I've been listening to Q105.3 off and on since they moved there in 1995. I sometimes like to stream them at home, since I like their eclectic mix of rock, which is usually a tad mellow. This morning I listened and they played "Dani, California" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, followed by "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi. Later I heard Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Smithereens "Girl Like You" and Foo Fighters "Learn To Fly." I don't remember Q105.3 rocking this hard. Unfortunately, since I don't live in the market, I don't know what their competition is up to, but this was a little too hard for me. Has anyone else noticed more hard rock on the Q?

Well, the Savannah market is getting saturated with the 70s and 80s music with two classic hits stations and a classic rock station. Either Q or I-95 is going to have to start going slightly more modern. Q is stupid for not going more modern AAA. There is no alternative rock station and Q can go AAA and cover most of the popular Alternative artist without going straight Alternative. I-95 has actually digged a little deeper with the classics but nothing drastic.

I took a look at the playlist and I've been listening: No, it does not appear they have really done anything with their format. I got to looking; I was mistaken as they are NOT considered AAA (nor should they be). Just Adult Contemporary with a rock lean. Foo Fighters, Green Day, and RHCP is about as hard as they will get.

Q105.3 Not As Hard Today

Well I'm looking at their playlist today, and they are definitely not blowing the roof off. Kenny Loggins, Badfinger, Hall & Oates and Gary Wright are being played today. Maybe it was a quirk of their scheduling software that put so many hard(er) songs in a row. About 30 percent of their playlist looks Triple A, with Decemberists, Lucinda Williams and Guster being played. If I was king of Savannah media, I would drop the classic rock and AC artists and make it full blown AAA. But it is a relief in the era of predictable of playlists that Q105.3 is doing their own thing.

Having worked for Jerry Rogers, I would never say his station is being "stupid." One of the most sound radio men I've ever known.

Not looking at it from a personal stand point. I'm simply looking at it from a radio enthusiast from the outside looking in. Based on the quality and the ratings, I say it lacks a lot. Sounds like a small locally own station that has essentially nothing to lose.
