Chicago Expats create Facebook group to bring back WGN 9PM on WGN America

https://www.facebook.com/WGNNewsFans
mostly some old advertiser irreveleant snowbirds in Florida who refuse to stream it yet can still get on Facebook to complain

My thought exactly...I just find it comical that these same people simply refuse to go to wgntv.com to watch the newscasts, and instead they just bitch and moan. As an Illinois native, I kinda miss having the WGN newscasts on TV, but I can still access them wherever and whenever, whether it be on the computer or the smartphone.

I don't mind watching the midday (10AM PT) news whenever I can. Tom Skilling is a Chicago TV legend and he does great with the forecasts, even 1,600 miles away from my place.
Filmon streams a raw (like Canada) feed of WGN-9 CW which is nice: http://www.filmon.com/tv/channel/export?channel_id=2551&affid=2180So

I watch that FilmOn feed pretty regularly. Love it, and no blackouts of anything, including Bulls and Hawks games. I'm guilty of putting the local feed on my computer and national on my TV to see how they compare!
I wouldn't be so hard on the Facebook group. The newscast was unceremoniously taken off and these people are rightly upset about it. WGN America is no longer unique ... this Cherniss guy running it now is bound and determined to make it the 8,400th general entertainment channel out there.

they still have the morning and afternoon news on there, but the Cubs are probably leaving, what kind of ratings was the 9PM news getting compared to reruns of How I Met your mother?

That's a good question, and I truly have no idea. I am not sure I've ever seen a channel devote the ad time and social media to promoting one show like WGN America has with HIMYM.
I wouldn't call the 4 a.m. news a fair trade for taking off the 9:00 news. It airs for an hour when most people are asleep, although if you're up early in the East or up late out on the West Coast, you could probably watch. I have been expecting this day to come for years when WGN America finally broke away from its Chicago roots for good, but it still doesn't answer one question ... when you are in an industry where so many channels offer the same thing, why not try to be different? The Cubs and Chicago are all that keeps WGN America unique, and soon enough every trace of both on the national signal will be gone for good.

Yes, and that's part of the problem.

local Chicago advertisers won't pay more to reach snowbirds in Florida, and national advertisers aren't interested in a Chicago newscast, but I don't know if those reruns get any more ad $, I think their current carriage agreements require them to have a certain amount of Chicago programming

I can post here, and probably could post on Facebook at home but don't dare do so (if my church warns people not to use the church's computer for Facebook, there's no way I'm using it at home). Some of us, however, don't want to pay enough to be able to stream live video. There's no way I could do this, and I'm spending way too much on even the most basic cable, TiVo, etc.
