WDJO Playing Blue Swede

Yesterday I tuned into DJO briefly and couldn't believe my ears. They played Never My Love by Blue Swede. I didn't know anyone ever played that song, or why anyone would. I can't figure what demo they are trying to appeal to. I don't think that song ever charted and if it did it didn't make it very high on the chart. What age group are they targeting?

Per "the Whitburn" - peaked at #7, 11 weeks on the chart in the fall of '74. I might be scratching my head if they played it regularly. As a special feature, I don't see a problem. I'm a little disappointed that I missed it.

I wouldn't play anything we listened to on the air in stereo on an AM oldies station. That one would be right on the edge.

I love that version! It was refreshingly different to the down tempo version from the Association. It had a driving tempo that you could nod your head to.
I was in Columbus thaen listening to it on WNCI. I even have a 45 that's kinda worn out because I loved it so much.

Oh, i don't know about that. We had all kinds of hits being played on CKLW, Keener and the like that was available for purchase in Stereo.

Maybe I wasn't clear. If we LISTENED to them on the air in mono as opposed to stereo, I believe they are in the potential library for an AM oldies station. A song that we listened to in stereo on an FM station when it was new is too new to be played on my AM oldies station. From 1972, for example, I'd play "Nice To Be With You" by Gallery and skip "Rocket Man" by Elton John. Another way to say it is, if WEBN played it in 1974, I'd probably not; if WSAI did, then I probably would. My guess is that WEBN did not play Blue Swede.

Well folks, tuned in this morning almost by accident and DJO's promo said their "oldies station has returned". Guess ( Hope) they are back playing oldies from the sixties. I had them tuned in for about an hour and they sounded good.

All I know is that it sounds so much better and worth listening to again. Glad to have the oldies back. Hope they make it. I know it is a tough sell.

Let me expand on that thought a little. If a song is still being played on an FM station then it's too new to be played on an AM Oldies station. Skip "Rocket Man" way overplayed!
