The power of radio personalities

Radio is a very personal medium. You don't see the guy on the other end, but it seems like he's taking right to you.

Having said that, too many hosts abuse this connection with listeners. They buy into their own hype and think they're something special when they're not.

talent will be fed to local stations from a distant location by
'clear channel, cumulus, cbs, etc. Its already happening in many cities.

Change the names to CBS and NBC and you could have written this in 1932.
 
But not in 1952.

I'm not sure I understand all the nuances of this thread.... but circa 1952 we had some personalities that seemed to reach us: there was Godfrey and Linkletter. Being a boy lost in the cottonfields of the era, I missed out on some of the personalties that others may have had access.

And in 1952 it seems that any self-respecting station in the South had a Country-Musician-in-Residence who did a morning and noon time 'personality' show by day, and concerts as fundraisers in high school auditoriums.

In some eras, "personality" demonstrates itself in different forms and scope.
