if you want to hear ctcam full time try this

Haven't you guys ever heard of WOR?
Or WTAM (the one-time KYW), WBT, CKLW, WGY, WHAS, WHO, WTIC, WRVA, WWVA, WHAM...
or Internet audio streaming?

AM and Demos

MikefromDE says it. Sports attracts younger demos to AM like nothing else. Talk doesn't. A non-rated national sports show clearance in Market 8 yields more ad revenue than a rated talk show outlet. Look at WWTX. That's WIP 10 years from now (barring a sale to a religious or ethnic broadcaster - no change.)

The only comment I'd make is that IQ shut down after a year because owner Merlin got out of the business (investors having tired of funding Randy Michaels outsized ego and undersized business acumen) and they found a motivated buyer who allowed them to recoup most of their losses on the purchase and offset the big losses racked up by the failed news operations in NYC and CHI. The IQ talk format didn't have time to settle in and mature. CBS lucked out.

I still think that CBS will drop talk on 1210 someday, for sports, because of what you said, sports gets more revenue than right wing talk.

I still don't think you quite understand that one company owning three sports stations isn't smart. The current talk format 1210 seems to be doing well despite all its problems. It's not going anywhere.

For all we know there are contractual reasons why Hannity preempts Coast.

What we do know

While we may not know the contractual details the fact is the these are two syndicated programs by Clear Channel's Premiere subsidiary being carried by a CBS station in the market where CBS began.

From this we can reasonably infer that CBS is extracting a pretty penny from its normal arch rival to insure coverage for Hannity/Coast to Coast etc.

For both parties the relationship seems to be happy and working so why should either of them care to change - especially when the ratings are solid?

CBS did not begin in Philadelphia. Where did you ever get that idea?

WOR - very hard catch from fabric row in CC
WTAM - again too much static and interference
WBT - comes in once and awile but fades on and off
CKLW - non-existent, but in its top 40 days of the 60's it was like a local
WGY - non-existent
WHAS - non existent
WHO - very very non existent
WTIC - non existent
WRVA - comes in on occasion but weak and fades
WWVA - the best of them all, comes in pretty good at times
WHAM - second best after WWVA but not dependiple

Internet audio streaming - I use on occasion, especially on the weekends KNWZ from Palm Desert, good clean internet signal and they also air old Art Bell programs, but my main bitch is why does the average listener have to rely on these sources when you can use a good old fashioned AM radio like other areas.
