KANY move in

Does anyone out there have any speculative ideas as to what will happen with this signal move in? From what I've seen online, it appears that KANY will move to 107.3 (KLSY move in from south Bend to Cosmopolis) and a new format will debut on 93.7 (KLSY?) to serve the south sound or rimshot Seattle. I'd like to see a rock-hits format targeting those of us who grew up in the 80's and liked mullet rock, or a classic AC, but maybe either demo is to small.

Thoughts?

At this point, I would not count on a format such as "rock-hits". The trend in Seattle is to effectively have the same radio format on every single radio station, which is a sharp contrast to our neighbours. Even in Portland and Vancouver can you find a stark variation in radio formats. Therefore, it would not surprise me if KANY popped up with the same exact radio format as another station in town. At the moment KANY is serving only to taking a bite out of KMPS and KKWF. If you have looked at the March ratings, its clear to see that all of these country radio stations are only harming each other (with KMPS and KKFW lower on the charts than normal). That's what happens when you have "over saturation".

I would like to know what is going to happen to KLSY (also known as "The Quake"). Is the classic rock going to be left to KDUX 104.7 exclusively? Notice that KLSY is on 107.9 in Raymond at this moment. I don't think that the planned coverage for 107.3 in Grays Harbour will have enough juice to reach Raymond after the move. Raymond is shielded by some large hills.

How about a Soft AC format? "EZ Rock 93.7". If you listen to KQEZ or WDUV you should know what I mean. No AC hits past about 2000, loads of 70s/80s stuff, and 3-4 smooth jazz cuts an hour.

I wouldn't mind seeing 93.7 adopt a format that is similar to CHQM 103.5. Although it would be adult contemporary, it would be different than all of the awful Hot-AC that we have around here at the very least.

One thing I just noticed on Northwest Broadcasters... KJET 105.7 has a construction permit for 57kw. Could that really be true?

Can't find it on the FCC site nor on NW Broadcasters. I have always thought that 105.7 could upgrade to a higher class, but the engineers out there would have a better idea. The only restrictions I can think of would be KFBW Vancouver (105.9), KUKN Longview (105.5), KRSE Yakima (105.7), the new allotment at Sedro-Woolley on 105.7 and the Canadian CBC station in Vancouver.

If you look on the listing of FM stations, you will see it in the KJET slot. I don't think there is too much concern about CBU-FM, as the Olympic Mountains seem to block most of the southern signals from causing havoc (It always surprises me that KDDS, KANY, KOMO and co-exist so well with their Seymour counterparts). I think it would be interesting to see a station broadcasting from somewhere other than South Mountain or Capital peak in the south part of the state. Who knows if that information is even correct, though.

Just did a google search...it appears to be an old CP that was never built. It appears to have been issued back in 2008 or so and would have expired long before now.

You're forgetting KUKN 105.5.

Its a shame that they never did anything with that CP. I would have loved to see what would have happened if they went through with it. KJET is unique. Although it is licensed to Raymond (also the location of its most powerful transmitter), it uses an on channel repeater to serve Aberdeen. I wonder how the signal is affected.

Years ago I remember this being discussed on this board (used to post here under a different name). Don't remember where the proposed xmtr location was. Maybe it was South Mountain...that would make the most sense to me, when considering KUKN in Longview which if I remember correctly is a low wattage class A. (BTW, does anyone remember when KUKN 94.5 and KLYK 105.5 swapped frequencies?)

I never understood what advantages came with using south mountain for transmitting. Its also hard for me to believe that KANY, KDDS, and KOMO do not cause any interference with their Mount Seymour counterparts, as there really is no buffer space between stations. It seemed to me like capitol peak offered better advantages for a broadcaster. At least it seems like a sensible location for a tower ;)

The Canadian government is only concerned with interference within Canada. That might explain some of it.

Hmmm... interesting. Well, all of the south mountain towers are placed a respectable distance from the Seymour towers (to prevent interference). These channels are co-existing so, I suppose there is no need for concern.

Just noticed this morning that KANY is stunting with ocean sounds and running liners for listeners to retune to 107.3 for country. They are still running commercials that were most likely sold before hand.

Update: They're now just running the carrier with no audio...nobody's home!

My digital tuner screen is saying KLSY and Classic Rock. But the audio ID is saying KANY, The Birds.

Like I posted in the other thread; its been nothing but dead air with a strange promo. This is strange!

EDIT: Now its nothing but bird chirping noises with a promo that reads "If you're wondering where bigfoot country went, we're now on 107.3 in Grays Harbour. Love those birds..."

Does anyone have the ability to see whats going on with KLSY? 107.3 right now? For those of us who live in the Seattle area, its not possible to pick up that 4,100 watt Cosmopolis Hill signal.

93.7 may not be stunting. This bird format could actually be the permanent fixture of the frequency. Crime rate may go down around the area, cats have something to listen to and it's all natural and organic. Imagine it now... Someone rolling through Aberdeen proper with a 1000 watt sub in the trunk. License plate buzzing with every chickadee Dee dee dee. #birdbass

I was really hoping that 93.7 would become 'the Quake'. I liked to listen to them when I was out at the coast. (I do think that the KANY calls will move to 107.3. Will the KLSY calls move over to 93.7? I guess we'll find out soon.
