As per Yahoo (via the Associated Press), the news just came earlier this afternoon, as the telco company will buy the nation's #1 satellite TV provider in a deal that will cost AT&T $48.5 billion. As some of you may already know, AT&T already markets DirecTV plans as part of a bundling arrangement...especially in areas of the country that don't get AT&T's U-verse TV service. A combined U-verse/DirecTV union would net AT&T around 26 million video subscribers, would be slightly behind Comcast-Time Warner Cable's combined 30 million subscribers, should both transactions be approved.
