KISW Men's Room - More Ads & Music ?

I agree completely! I've been listening to the Portland radio dial exclusively where I can listen to my AAA music.

Portland is an odd duck. They still let their freak flag fly whereas Seattle has become far too gentrified for it's own good. They're about to get a 100 watt all LGBT LPFM station (KPQR-LP 99.1)

Portland radio really has a personality. Even the classic rock station, KGON, is completely unique compared to KZOK or KJR. I think Seattle radio would really benefit from looking at how they run things in Portland or San Francisco.

I think its pretty sad that the only reason I tune into Seattle radio is to hear nationally based talk shows on an AM station. Majors jeers.

Re: Mens Room. I really have never understood the all talk shows Bob Rivers, Mens Room, and BJ Shay on otherwise music stations. I wonder if all those shows, with rock in all other dayparts would work? It wouldn't surprise me as they all seem to be near the top. Re: Seattle's dial. It's always been my opinion that with a couple exceptions, Seattle's dial has been below my standard. My presets on TuneIn and other apps,
91.3 KMHS CHR from Marshfield High School in Koos Bay.
92.3 WFLY Albany, NY.
92.5 our own KQMV.
92.5 KSYN Joplin, MO pretty good CHR.
92.9 KFAT Anchorage, AK very good rhythmic CHR.
93.3 WLDB Milwaukee, WI AC very good.
93.7 WDAY-FM Fargo, ND great CHR!
94.1 KTFM San Antonio, TX should probably remove this station since I don't listen much.
94.5 KRXY in Shelton, an interesting mix.
94.5 WPST also a kind of interesting CHR, but might remove it.
94.9 WHOM Portland, ME pretty good AC.
95.1 KITI-FM in Winlock, slightly older leaning than KRXY but still an interesting station.
95.7 WBEN-FM Philidelphia, PA pretty good variety hits station.
95.7 WLHT Grand Rapids, MI pretty good Hot AC.
96.1 KORQ Abilene, TX pretty good CHR.
97.9 KRBB Wichita, KS CC Premium Choice AC but somehow it sounds pretty good.
98.1 KISC Spokane this was a good station until CC fired everybody over there.
98.1 WKDD just recently added, adult-leaning CHR.
98.1 WQSM Fayetteville, NC very good mix for an Adult Top 40.
98.9 KKMG Colorado Springs this is a very rhythmic mainstream CHR that is quite good.
98.9 WSPA Spartanburg, SC very good AC.
99.7 KZPT Kansas City pretty good AC or Hot AC or whatever you want to call them.
100.7 KPPT Depoe Bay, OR great Classic Hits station, and the only one I have set.
101.1 KOSI Denver, CO pretty good AC.
101.5 WPOI Tampa, FL very similar to 92.5 here.
101.9 KRSQ Billings, MT interesting gold selection on an otherwise average CHR.
103.1 KCDA Spokane, WA CC has reimaged this station about 4 times in the last 2 years, but it still sounds good, even if they've removed the AAA component.
103.7 WXSS Milwaukee, WI very similar to WDAY-FM.
104.1 KMGL Oklahoma City, pretty good AC, very similar to what I think KLSY might sound like if it were still on the air.
104.7 WHTP Portland, ME very good rhythmic CHR.
104.9 KBWX St. Lewis, MO very good pop-leaning rhythmic.
105.5 KKKJ Klamath Falls, OR CHR with a twist. Listen for an hour and you'll hear at least 2 or 3 songs even the most advanced CHR listener has never heard before.
105.9 KALC Denver, CO very good mix similar to WQSM, but a bit boring.
106.5 WARH very good variety for an Adult Hits station.
106.9 KTXY Columbia, MO very good CHR.
106.9 WNRG Milwaukee, WI very good pop-leaning rhythmic, quite similar to WHTP and KFAT.
107.3 KFFM don't know what keeps me coming back to this station, but I do.
107.3 WBZN Bangore, ME very good adult-leaning CHR with a heavy community focus.
107.3 WRQX Washington, DC good music mix, though they've gotten kind of boring lately.
107.5 KENR pretty good CHR.
107.5 KXJM not sure about them since they've relaunched, but I liked the old format.
107.9 WHWT Syricuse, NY recent addition, very similar to Portland's Z100.

You listen to a very interesting mix of music. You like CHR and AC mostly?

Yes, mainly though I'm not afraid to listen to any format if done right. The problem I have with Classic Hits is that, while I may like a lot of that music, I don't have much to go off of in terms of memories associated with that music. That doesn't mean I won't listen to it though, but I'll be able to look back on it 20 years or more from now.

I agree. When it comes to oldies, classic hits, or classic rock, I listen because I love the music. I didn't grow up when songs like "Crocodile Rock" were on the radio, therefore I have no positive associations with hearing it like other people do.

Here's my list of online stations.

89.7 - an occasional CJSU Duncan, BC "Sun FM"
92.1 - KUMA Pendelton, OR AC Dial Global nice station./KTFW Fort Worth, TX Hank FM. GREAT Country station. 1960s-2014 hits and a mix of everything. WAY better than any "today's country" station - check it out
92.3 - KQRQ Rapid City, SD Classic Hits, sometimes/WAEG Evans, GA Smooth Jazz Allen Kepler, OK playlist, sometimes
92.5 - KSRW Independence, CA REALLY good Soft AC. Sierrawave.net and on tunein. Low quality stream but an amazing playlist that sounds like it is stuck in the late 1990s full of album cuts and older Soft AC hits and smooth jazz to boot!! One of the most common songs I hear is an album cut! "Hopelessly Addicted" by the Corrs. Not even a single!
92.7 - KBQB Chico, CA "Bob FM" OK Adult Hits station.
92.9 - our local KDBL Country 92.9 The Bull when I don't have a radio with me.
93.1 - KCBS-FM Los Angeles, CA. Jack FM with a good 80s rock playlist.
93.7 - WDAY Fargo, ND good CHR - sometimes I do listen to CHR but not the rap stuff.
94.3 - KCRE Crescent City, CA with Cumulus satellite AC network. REALLY good station.
94.7 - KCNB Chadron, NE good CHR B94.7. They simulcast with KELN/97.1 North Platte NE but oddly enough since KELN is Central time and KCNB is Mountain time, they are an hour off! You'll hear "Dark Horse" at 5:14 on KELN and 6:14 on KCNB.
94.9 - KIOK Pasco, WA when I don't have a radio with me. "94.9 the Wolf"
95.5 - KKHK Carmel, CA Bob FM - good playlist.
96.1 - KXXO Olympia, WA occasional because the AC mix is better than KRWM or sometimes even KONA
97.3 - KRVY Starbuck, MN // KUMA 92.1. KUMA is used whenever KRVY has Twins or HS Basketball/Football games instead of the music.
98.1 - KISQ San Francisco, CA for their Disco Saturday Night, sometimes. Kiss FM
98.7 - KSID Sidney, NE "The Blaze" good Hot AC with 80s-now mix.
100.3 - KKRZ Portland, OR extremely occasionally
103.7 - K279BP Albuquerque, NM "The Oasis" excellent Smooth Jazz station! Love the mix of smooth jazz, latin guitar and vocals. I miss you, KWJZ!
104.1 - KAFE Bellingham, WA will listen to see what's up in NW WA sometimes - the AC mix is OK. Used to listen to KAFE more than 106.9 or 96.1.
104.3 - KKMX Tri City OR "SAM FM 104.5" (their Roseburg translator) whenever KWVN wants to act up.
105.7 - KRSE local sometimes when I have no computer access.
106.3 - KQEZ Shelley, ID good Soft AC "EZ Rock 106.3/95.3" - plus WSBZ Miramar Beach, FL The Seabreeze - another good Smooth Jazz station
106.9 - KKRB Klamath Falls, OR THE STREAM SUCKS! Slow, slow, slow. Dropping out all the time and horrible and takes up way too much memory, thanks a lot "RadioLoyalty". But the AC mix is great whenever I can get the darn stream to work!
107.7 - KWVN Pendleton, OR when I don't have a radio around. 107.7 The Vine great mix of Adult Hits music

There are hardly any classic hits stations because the music on every station is the SAME CRAP YOU CAN HEAR ON 500 OTHER CHANNELS. 600 or 700 songs piled up in a tight stupid playlist. KMCQ "All Songs of the 60s and 70s" was VARIETY.

It would be perfect if we had "The Mountain" and the old KMCQ back. I do enjoy classic hits, but I will happily listen to the sounds of my car engine before touching KJR

This morning, I listened for 2 1/2 hours to KWVN 107.7 The Vine (the station everyone seems to be talking about here lately) and wrote down the music as I went along. From 4:23am:

“With Or Without You” U2 (mid-song)
“Basket Case” Green Day
“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” Beatles
“Black Velvet” Alannah Myles
“China Grove” Doobie Brothers
“Jump Jive 'N Wail” Brian Setzer Orchestra
“Magic” Coldplay
“Talk To Me” Stevie Nicks
“Take Money And Run” Steve Miller Band
(5:00 TOH ID)
“My Hero” Foo Fighters
“Get Into The Groove” Madonna
“Lonely Ol' Night” John Mellencamp
“Will It Go 'Round In Circles” Billy Preston
“Mr. Brightside” Killers
“Man On The Moon” REM
“Don't Stop Believin'” Journey
“Ex-Girlfriend” No Doubt
“Golden Years” David Bowie
“In A Big Country” Big Country
“Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing” Chris Isaak
“She's So Cold” Rolling Stones
“I Was Made To Love Her” Stevie Wonder
(6:00 TOH)
“Dreams” Cranberries
“Stompa” Serena Ryder
“Thing Called Love” Bonnie Raitt
“My Best Friend's Girl” The Cars
“I'm Feeling You” Santana/Michelle Branch
“Pure” Lightning Seeds
“Dreams” Fleetwood Mac
“Photograph” Nickelback
“Cheap Sunglasses” ZZ Top
“Barely Breathing” Duncan Sheik
“Howlin For You” The Black Keys
“Do It Again” Steely Dan
“Baby I'm A Star” Prince

A few songs really jump out: "In A Big Country" Big Country, "Pure" Lightening Seeds "Baby I'm A Star" Prince), so they have the right idea. But overall, It felt like I was just listening to somebody's weird iPod with a better FM transmitter than mine. Like any of these "variety hits" stations

If I was listening to REALLY good radio, I'd also hear more of a living human element behind it.

Didn't you get the memo? Radio stations are not allowed to have a mixed up playlist that encompasses music from multiple decades because each radio station must cater to a specific age group. I may also note, people belonging to that age group will either listen the station programmed for them or not be worth the advertising.

^ Radio philosophy in the Seattle Metropolitan Area.

In all seriousness, this radio station sounds fantastic; a breath of fresh air, if you will.

WDAY-FM is an awesome station! I can listen when I'm in just about any mood and it just works. KKRB must be owned by Cove Road Publishing, same owner as 3KJ. My other gripe about them is they've removed mobile streaming from TuneIn. They tell you to download the Radio Loyalty app, but I can't get it to work. I had no problems with 3KJ on TuneIn. Yes Radio Loyalty is annoying. The other complaint I have about them, though not exclusive to Radio Loyalty, is my screen reader doesn't read the song title and artist, something that's essential when I'm listening to KKKJ, since they play so much unusual stuff.

Hey i'm just wondering, how old are you guys? I notice you guys both seem to like CHR so i'm assuming you are on the younger end of the spectrum.

I'm not sure about Crainbibo, but I'm 20. Y94 is just one of those stations though that just about anyone could listen to. It seems to me like you could put it down in any market, especially Milwaukee or smaller and have it work.

Okay, cool! I think Crain is on the younger end of the spectrum as well.
