What do you guys get on 1130?

Here in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago, WISN (Milwaukee) has a near-local grade signal during the day. Then at night, WISN goes from 50kw down to 10kw, and throws a very severe null in my direction. It thus effectively vanishes, despite their massive antenna farm being only a little more than 30 miles away. What's left is most likely KWKH, although not very reliable. WBBR sometimes shows up. Less frequently WDFN. WDGY also used to occasionally pop in around sunrise/sunset. CKWX has also put in a few brief appearances during the past couple of winters.

Baton Rouge....WJBO...has been a nighttime regular along the Florida and Alabama Gulf Coast beaches for as long as I can remember. They also put a nice daytime signal into New Orleans, and along I-10 almost all the way to the Texas border.

My bad. I was originally going to go with 1150, then thought 1130 might be a little more interesting. Long story short, I screwed up my save/delete and thus inadvertantly created the confusion. Apologies.

But...as long as both threads are up, we may as well do a "two-fer" this week. So let's keep going with 1150 here.

As for me, in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago, 1150 daytime is basically splatter from WYLL. At night, it's a mess, with WHBY (Appleton, WI) most likely to rise to the top.
Up until a couple of years ago, that would have been CKOC. They were fairly regular for a while, but now only occasional. I presume they fixed what had been a "leaky" nighttime pattern. I also occasionally hear KSAL. WISN used to be fairly reliable at night here before they moved to 1130 in the mid-60s.

1150 in Yakima is a very weak KKNW Seattle, WA (Brokered talk mainly) by day, and at night it's a mix. Kelowna, BC (CKFR) is normal as is KKNW, KAGO Klamath Falls, OR also comes in a lot as well. I have also heard KSEN Shelby, MT at sunset, KXET Portland, OR and KQQQ Pullman, WA as well.

Lol on 'two-fer', CyberDad. Instantly coming to mind is when punter Ray Guy booted one that bounced off a speaker at the Superdome, causing much confusion.
The refs decided that it was a no-play and had Guy re-punt.

Here in scenic Metro Quakake PA on 1150:
WDEL Delaware (7-3-93)
CKOC Canada (1-7-96, taped)
WMRD CT (12-27-12, taped). That was a nice surprise ; about 9:30 PM. I doubt they were on their flamethrowing 46-watt nighttime power.

As WCNX, they were the only listenable 1150 during middays near Kennedy Airport. We'd get others near sunset and at night, like WRUN Utica, WCOP Boston, etc.

The best catch was one I'm sure (being the worst DXer in our bunch plus usually with the lousiest radio) that others east and north of me must have heard. Some of the white-whiskered DXers here will remember the date.
KIIS Los Angeles put on a special DX test. They planned for :15 minutes on 5000 watts and :15 at 1000 watts.
All those years ago, and quite often, the onliest thing remaining overnight Monday Morning on 1150 was a station from Mexico.
So KIIS was a real easy catch. In fact, when they dropped to 1000 watts they were still readable.

Well sure! And at a hotel where I used to frequently stay a little southwest of Toronto, CKOC on 1150 would frequently step on WBBR and anything else on 1130. And since the hotel was just up the road from CFRB, on a cheap radio you might even get a "three-fer"!

In central Kansas, it's always KSAL in Salina (5KW DA-N) with a huge coverage thanks to being on the "salt dome). I've personally picked them up at night on the back side of Pikes Peak in Colorado with the main lobe going west at night.

That must've been a long time ago. KIIS-AM is now talk station KEIB for "Excellence in Broadcasting" as in Rush Limbaugh. Before that, it was a sports-talk station and I would listen to Jim Rome.
